Best way to buy train ticket in Shanghai?

  • I'll visit Shanghai soon. I want to have excursion by train during my stay. I would like to know the best way to buy train ticket, "D" train 動車, mainly to Nanking and back. I heard that there is no online reservation in Chinese trains. So you need to go to ticket counter or machine. And tickets are sold since 10 or 7 days before the departure date. Is it better to buy it as early as possible? Even 1 or 2 days before the departure date makes some difference? And I also read that there are dozens of ticket machines in Shanghai. Where is them? Is there one near subway #4 Dalian Road station?

D86/D87 上海站 → 南京站 发车07:25 到站09:35 行驶 2小时10分 D82/D83 上海站 → 南京站 发车15:20 到站17:18 行驶 1小时58分 D76/D77 上海站 → 南京站 发车07:40 到站09:46 行驶 2小时6分 http://www.huoche.biz/dz0a4e776d-5753ac4e.aspx you can buy in advance or same day -- it doesn't usually make any difference because many trains are daily so you will always have the seat... only cheap hard seats may be sold out completely... as for down benches in the sleepers -- it's only possible to get no tickets if you are traveling during the "hot time" -- Spring Festival... no idea about the ticket machines -- i always buy them in the station... if you don't speak Chinese just write the station 南京 and the date... they usually show the price on the little screens in the windows... ;)
