They are completely harmless and peaceful. In 1999, 10,000 of them assembled outside party leaders' quarters in Tianjin for a peaceful protest. Since the brutal regime ruling China is afraid of any protests, including peaceful ones, they began vilifying and torturing these peaceful people. It's pretty much a cult. A lot of outsiders don't realize this and think it's just typical China cracking down on religion (when they allow everything else including Islam). Li Hongzhi, the leader of FG, has convinced followers that he has supernatural powers and that he's the sole human savior which gives him absolute authority in the FG. You can read all about his crazy claims over the internet. Cults are considered dangerous by China (and some other governments) because the followers are usually extremely brainwashed the cult and this gives the cult power. So if Li Hongzhi were to one day say: "hey guys, go start a revolt in China so I can take over", then it could happen. PS you won't find that much information about FG's cult-like nature in wikipedia because their followers constantly start revert changes and this results in extremely long arbitration processes that takes weeks.

Do you know how many died under Li Hongzhi that his teachings believe that medicine don't heal people but his imaginary hand healing does? There's a big difference of why CCP tolerate Tai Chi and mediation as normal but tolerates FLG is abnormal and a disease to society.
