EMS or DHL form China?

  • I am ordering a package from china to california. I was wondering if EMS or DHL is a better shipper to use. They are both free so price isnt a factor

    Actually, going with EMS may be a better choice due to customs and duties in the US. Normally companies like Fedex, UPS, DHL not only charge the customs and taxes fee, they also charge exhorbitant 'handling' fees which are not made known up front. So, the package will arrive and you'll have to pay XX $ on top to release it. With EMS, you won't pay a handling fee, and 80% of the time you won't even pay taxes and duties. In fact, registered China Post is your best bet.

DHL is by far the better choice. You mentioned they are both free to you, but if you had ot pay, you would pay much more for DHL because it is faster and more reliable. I have used both from China and much prefer DHL because you are only using one company, while EMS uses the China Post system and whichever post office the other country uses. EMS is not a company; it is a system of cooperation between worldwide postal carriers. If cost is a consideration and the contents are easily replaceable, use EMS. If it is important, and you require fast deliveries, use DHL.

To answer this question. It really doesn't matter which courier you use, you mention is free.The only thing you have to remember what are you mailing out from China? Please, no prohibited items. Then, you must write your address clearly, would be ideal to get someone to write in Chinese as well.Check your item where is it shipping from(Which city in China)? Get the phone contact and item number for tracking purposes.Sometimes it may take longer, because it may go via here and there.Especially your item is mail out from a smaller town or city in China.
