Have you ever seen anyone in China put Coca Cola into their glass of red wine?

According to the end of this video, Chinese people "like their red wine with Coca Cola." Hmmmm, I've lived in China for the past five years and for two-and-a-half years prior to that. I've been to more banquets and dinners than I can count and I've NEVER seen anyone put Coca Cola in their wine. Have you? http://news.yahoo.com/video/world-15749633/washington-state-makes-big-bucks-in-china-23080691;_ylt=AsB8O3WqIlEEy1Q8EsKP7bSz174F;_ylu=X3oDMTE3djVwZmg5BHBvcwMyBHNlYwNtb3N0LXBvcHVsYXIEc2xrA3dhc2hpbmd0b25zdA--

Answer:
I haven't yet heard of Coke being added to red wine per se because Chinese people only started to appreciate this alcoholic drink recently, but I would not be surprised when I see it. Being Chinese, I have seen many times Sprite and Coca-Cola being added to all sorts of wine and beer by my fellow countrymen, even to those expensive French cognac. It is cocktail with Chinese characteristics.

HMM I have not heard of coca cola being added to wine, I have heard of cola cola being boiled and drunk. I have heard of whiskey being mixed with green tea and sometimes with green tea and champagne. It maybe due to that I have heard sprite being added to alcohol. Chinese liquor "bai jiu" is well known for being like 120° proof. It is commonly used as a way to cement friendships with your Chinese businesses partner while getting drunk. Also offering hard liquor is a business strategy to get the other to agree to otherwise difficult business terms. If one is drunk, the more there likely to say "yes" to things they would not have when sober. To slow this down they add sprite the same may apply with cola with the added bonus of it tasting more sweeter than sprite....

No one in China mixes Coke Cola and wine. This is yet another example of lies about China appearing in western media.
Cultural Insight
I have not seen it. Western red wine is often bitter in taste and I have a feeling Chinese don't like bitter tastes. The adding of Coca Cola is maybe for two reasons, a) make it sweeter b) dilute the strength of it.

most Chinese people don't drink red wine, and only some young people like Coca Cola

China is developing a unique set of mixers for its drinks. Whiskey and green tea is one of the worst. But each to their own. I have had read wine and sprite together. Red wine and coca cola seems interesting. CHinese peoplee traditionally drink very sweet red wines (red wines that are actually better served chilled because of their extreme sweetness). Wines are very trendy so obviously they want to mix it with different things.

Having tasted some Chinese wine I would have liked to have coke or pepsi or most any soda to mix with it as it was bad. I know good wine and have been educated about wines around the world and even the best Chinese wine is not very good. I have heard this same story when I was there and was also told that many poor people mix it with cheaper drinks so it will last longer and go further.

Yes, I tried mixing red wine and cola (pepsi) together, and it's not that bad. You still get the taste of the red wine and the strong bubbly taste of cola.
cisco
Nope. Lived there ten years and saw beer with ice cream in it, and beer with orange soda. They actually didn't drink red wine all that much. The "rocket fuel" (maotai) was way more popular.
