Why is Taiwan so prone to typhoons?

  Hi! I currently live in Taiwan. The school holidays run from now til September. From now until late September is Typhoon season -this effects the whole of South East Asia - particularly those places next to the sea. You will be able to buy train tickets regardless of the season. Oh - and here's an interesting fact. Normally, once a year there is a ghost month, this is normally in July - during this month Chinese people are reluctant to travel and won't leave their homes unless necessary. This year is extra special as in China they use the Lunar calendar - for some reason the Chinese year has two Julys this year (our July and August) - basically this means that during July and August it will be quite easy for foreigners to travel around; however, you'll have to dodge the odd typhoon - which is really, really no biggie - they are forcasted well in advance and your hotel will inform you - they tend to last just a day or two.
