    When hiking, I've used the MSR WaterWorks filter. I like it because it attaches to the top of a MSR water bottle so its easy for one person to operate. I've heard the portable PUR filter doesn't clog as often, but I don't have any complaints about the MSR. You can use tablets to kill some bacteria, etc, but it will also change the flavor of the water. Boiling water works for bacteria, but wouldn't remove chemicals. The MSR and PUR filters remove bacteria and protozoa including giardia and cryptosporidia, plus chemicals including pesticides, industrial pollutants, iodine and chlorine.

There are plenty of ways. I have a Pur filter that attaches to my faucet. It has replaceable filters that cost about $50 for a pack of 6. The faucet filter costs about $35 and only comes with one filter. The filters last about 6 weeks ( for two people). A better way is the under the counter reverse osmosis filter system. The filters last about a year. An R.O. system filters better, but costs from $100 to $200. They are both available at Lowes, Home Depot, WalMart, etc. Bottled water is a nice alternative, but gets expensive after awhile.

don't know about tablets or commercial products, i look forward to those answers myself. but i do know that you can filter thru paper filters or cloth then boil the water. we have to boil for 30 days every time a pipe breaks.

best answer is to just buy bottled water...it's quite cheap in china.

best to buy bottled water in China...but watch it!! those bottles can easily be refilled and sold with ordinary water...If you're really safe buy only sparkling water.

Just buy bottled water or get one of the watermachines, they're 50 Kuai and a new 19l bottle is 8-15 Kuai, depending on the brand!
