Answer:
Something that represents where you live. Like I live in San Diego, so I gave my French exchange student items made by our American Indians (dream catchers), silver jewelry made in Mexico, a T-shirt with the state of CA indicating points of interest and a coffee table book filled with photos of historical and famous sites. She really enjoyed the picture book.

Things that are unique in your culture. Base ball stuff. Football stuff. Etc.

I think the children would most enjoy something that is unique to your culture. Also, candy is always appreciated by kids. :)

Ballpoint pens are always very popular. And you can get them very cheaply at an office supply store. Some companies will print your name/logo on them. Small pins with something American (pop stars, actors) would be popular. I would say small plastic toys, but those are all made in China now anyway.

i'd most likely bring postcards or some American candy. it's best that you'd give them something that'd they never saw before. for example, and American notebook. i've been to china and i've seen their notebooks: flimsy, thin papered. our american notebooks have cardboard covers. these are only some suggestions. you can give them anything you want, but i'd still advice you to bring something to them that they never saw before

The school will most likely select a girl of similar age to be the guide, maybe the one with the highest grades in the school. For her, a simple necklace that she will wear for years on special occasions, a small picture of your daughter as a token of friendship, a box of local cookies that she can share with her family and a picture book of PA to satisfy her intellectual curiosity, attach a picture of your family and home. For the school, a picture book with scenes from all over the US; and for the school officials, the gift should be from the group, not individual students.

University apparel is good. A Penn State sweatshirt for example. Baseball team paraphenalia is good too. Baseball is america's game, and you would identify your home state by making it a Pirates or Phillies item. Whatever it is it should be readily identified with America, preferably with writing or a distictly American graphic. If you can tie it in to your hometown or home state that will be best. Eskie lover's idea - a coffee table book is also excellent.
