Have you ever moved to another country?

Should the 2008 Olympic be moved to another country.?

  • Should the 2008 Olympic's in China be moved to another country because of China turning a blind eye on the burmese people and the killing of monks. It's take over of Tibet, and policy on Taiwan. Also it's policy on blocking web sites and media, since there is no free press in China how will we heard the truth coming out of the country.

LOL @ Gene H's answer....! Gene, how do you know that no girl wants to date Adam W?? Besides, may be Adam is a famale, or even unexpectedly, a very beautiful one who has lots of admirers. Anyway, the opening date of 2008 Olympic is scheduled on 8th August 2008 in Beijing, why don't we wait and see what would happen in less than a year? People will move on and look forward to 2012 Olympics (London) after end of August 2008..., unless this beautiful planet got blown up!

NO NO NO !!! This may be the only chance that the outside, CIVILISED, world gets to see the reality of the situation here. When people start unfurling and holding up " FREE TIBET " or " HUMAN RIGHTS NOW " etc. posters ( and it's going to happen ) How do you think the security forces will respond? I think the world will see LIVE on TV. and in stories / photos in the FREE western press, Just what sort of a country and Govt. it is here. So let them have their games. They do not realise that it is a double edged sword ! ONE WORLD ONE DREAM ???? Let us wait and see.

You are probably one of those guys who ballyhoos about how the Olympic are above politics when they are held in the US or some place that you like. That's pretty hypocritical. And, pal, if you want girls to like you try being nicer. You cause a lot of your own problems. They will say, "Yes," and go out with you if you only project a more positive image of yourself.

Yes, we can boycott the games as China human right is a question. How to trust someone when they don't treat its citizen with the proper human right...? Go and visit USA, you will see how the PRC demonstate against th Zhong Gong each and every week.....

I dont think Adam W hates China. Maybe he actually loves China, because he does -always- raise awareness of some very important issues, maybe not very diplomatically, but sometimes, the only way to make changes in our world is to be an extremist and leave diplomacy behind. Diplomacy has place, but when people are beaten and killed and raped, there is no time for quiet diplomacy, it is time to act. Yes, Burma is strategic for China and other world powers, but this is BS...people are killed, whatever Burma's place represents for China's economy has to take a backseat...And the only way to change things is through public opinion, rarely through violence. The problem is that public opinion is a very slow-moving creature, and it needs to be proded. Adam W is playing a role that too many of us, like me, do not want to play. We are complacent, but complacency has always resulted in millions of deaths and abominations. Remember Cambodia? Rwanda? The Olympics are as much about politics than sports. As I said in other posts, I love China and I have been there dozens of times, my dearest friends in my country and in China are Chinese, but I too sometimes think that I should take a stand and boycott China openly. Criticising the Chinese government does not mean criticising the Chinese people either as a group or individually, on the contrary. I believe that the issue of human rights in China and how the government deals with them is important and it is our duty as citizens of 'free' country where we have free press, freedom of speech, etc.,to point out those issues. Yes, I am totally outraged by the treatment of Tibetans and Uighur in particular and how the Chinese government is essentially negating the human rights to self-determination of these Nations (they are Nations completely different from Chinese), and the Taiwan issue is also not going away. Taiwanese aspire to be independent from China....No, actually, they are independent from China since a long time...I am also outraged by how political dissenters are treated and jailed, how some outspoken human rights activists (does the name Chen Guangcheng ring a bell) are routinely jailed and beaten, forced abortions for the sake of the one-child policy, forced relocation of millions of poor farmers for the sake of "progress", etc. Putting pressure on our governments to take action or put sanctions and raise our concerns with their counterparts is the best way to show our fellow Chinese, Burmese, Sudanese, etc. that we care about them. By the way Tai, the Chinese government is in Tibet to save the Tibetans from slavery??? You pretend to know the history of Tibet...come on, wake up! You have no right to tell the Tibetans or the people of any other nations for that matter, that they cannot be independent, especially if like the Chinese government, it is done with repression, assimilation, force and brutality. But we also have to remember that we also have dirty laundry (think about the mess that the British, French, Spanish, Portuguese have left in Africa, South America, Asia, etc.; think about the long-term effects of slavery in the US and elsewhere; think about the treatment of Aboriginals in North and South America, in Australia, New Zealand, etc.; think about how mighty corporate America is openly shaping and controlling and manipulating our everyday lives and ruthlessly exploiting the natural and human resources of our planet) in our own western democratic countries. I won't elaborate too much here because this is the travel forum...This being said, that's no reason to stay quiet either... So, no finger-pointing please, no insult-trading, just act...

pushfrog..i really hope that the american team along with the british and australian team or any other anti-chinese team can just back off and say..no to the olympics..that way we'll save so much money/ service and time fantastic...

India and the US are China's imaginary enemies, and both navy can reach Bengal bay easily. Chinese navy is holding the right using the the west coast harbors of Myanmar (Burma) in exchange of economic assistance. Also China wanna secure the supply of natural resources from Myanmar, such as oil and natural gas, etc. I think Olympic game would be a good opportunity that reveal their behavior and local problems of China to the world. I wonder, why there is no/less post by Chinese people that criticize the action and policy of the government regarding Myanmar here. No/less criticism from the local people is frightening in a way. Local people's criticism is necessary for wholesome society.

Joriental

no. don't politicalize the olympics, it's about games and the frendship of countries not stupid stuff like taiwan

goldenmonkey

Dear Asker, Why are you linking a sports matter with politics? What does the Olympics has anything to do with China's politics? When will people realise the difference between the two? Seems like most answers above me are talking about politics. Anyway, to answer your question, since China has won the bid to host the 2008 Olympics, then that should be final. What else is there to say anymore?
