What is the culture in China like today?

Why do Western media always bash China's human right without asking Chinese ppl first?

  • It seems the latest uprising in Egypt has Western media talking about China again. They wonder "how soon China will have this happen too". They even interviewed or quoted a very tiny few Chinese ppl from online or elsewhere about how "Democracy has won" or "how happy they are to see it". But the fact is, 95% of Chinese ppl do not care about democracy. The Chinese government has improved the quality of living for millions and most importantly, handed control of China back to the Chinese (got the foreigners out) since taking power. That by itself is enough for most ppl and it has earned its legitimacy for years to come. Actually, Chinese people do not like it when Western media criticize China and this is even more true for the younger generation, who are very patriotic. So it really baffles me why Western media always make it seems the Chinese people are yearning for democracy intensely and is suffering under CCP rule, and can't wait for the Westerners to rescue them like knight on a white horse. The fact is, democracy is not necessarily the best mode of government. The West has succeeded in the past due to scientific advancement and technology. This is due to their ability to produce a few geniuses on the very top of the IQ scale and had free spread of knowledge. When the West (British Empire) started overpowering the world, democracy wasn't even heard of. China, on the other hand, is also able to produce geniuses but the Manchu government in the past was weary of the native population gaining too much power and burned a lot of books, and closed itself in the past. China today is different because it actively encourages scientific education and cooperation. It's leaders are enlightened enough to know that social stability is important for economic development and that quashing a few dissents is a small price to pay to make most ppl happy. It's leaders all had engineering background rather than lawyers in the US, so they are scientifically oriented and logical, knowing what's the best for the ppl in the long run and know how to get things done, being it high speed rails or clean tech. The US on the other hand, is on a decline simply because democracy has enabled too much stupid people to speak. They voted candidates based on how "handsome" or how "popular" someone is without much regard to qualifications. This can be seen in their youth culture where the sports players get all the glory while the "nerds" aren't popular. Everyone think they are so important and their "rights" must be protected and nothings gets done as a group. Education, especially science education, is underrated when in fact is was the sole reason behind the West's rise. That's what's wrong with America and why the US is in decline. So I think the US need to get its house in order first before acting all righteous in front of others. Soon, it won't be in a position to do this.

  • Answer:

I really hate it when I read about Western ideals being forced upon other countries and their personal belief systems. Every country has their own human rights issues (yes, including the US - why don't you ask some of your conspiracy theorists about 9/11?), and the only difference is that the human rights watchdogs for China live outside of China, and have access to "international" newspapers. I agree completely with the asker - China is moving in a great direction. You don't NEED democracy to function perfectly - if your economy is successful, and your people enjoying prosperity, what do you need to change? Look at Canada (and I AM in Canada) - it has a perfectly great and functional democratic system except for the fact that its democracy has become NONFUNCTIONAL because of a) the lack of caring amongst younger generations about politics in general and b) the lack of suitable political candidates. I am happy that China has at least 1 party that will lead the country successfully, rather than 3+ parties, all of which cannot. People need to realize that China is a no longer a true Communist state - they have long since moved on to incorporate (very successfully) elements of Capitalist thought, to create a very successful mixed economic and political system. And finally if you dare to even mention Tibet, first look at the human rights travesties of every other developed nation in the world, and how they have been swept under the carpet. What happened to the Native Americans of Canada and the US? What about the reckless colonialism and destruction of heritage of culture by the European powers? How about the ruthless treatment of Japan prior to WWII? The subjugation and abuse of aboriginals in Australia? The abusive and racist treatment of immigrants in Canada and the US that even continues today? Before you look outwards, look inwards first.

Middle Eastern media says Chinese human is aborted by Chinese Communist police. http://english.aljazeera.net/news/asia-pacific/2010/10/201010208145793266.html Chinese Communist Chairman Mao Zhedong started Cultural Revolution and burned more books and destroyed more Chinese cultures than any other Chinese ruler. And he killed millions and millions of Chinese people, he killed more Chinese people than Japanese killed Chinese people. CCP is very good at propaganda and tell you democracy is not need. Maybe you are CCP propaganda.

It is because they CAN. You are correct to point out democracy has enabled many stupid people to speak, and they can do so along with the intelligent. If you were a Chinese citizen questioning about human rights and democracy in China, you would be in prison. Yet you can post and say whatever comments you want about all the western leaders, democracy, their stupidity and can still sleep soundly every night then waking up to be with all the people you love.

Just reading your question shows you have no idea what Human Rights are and how to gather information on this topic. The amount and content of the news in China is censored, this is a known fact world wide. If you believe that any news media needs to ask the population what they think about the Human Rights in China then you have no idea what Human Rights are either. To come up with the best information possible on human rights you must have the best sources of information. I am sorry to have to tell you this but a censored population is not a credible source of information on human rights. Yes this population has a opinion, but it is controlled by the source of their information which is the rulers of China. Like you have said, 95% of the Chinese population does not care about democracy, there main thought in life is getting the food necessary to feed their families. But then what does this have to do with human rights? That was your question I am thinking. You ask this question and then ramble on and on off topic. This rambling about democracy should be put forth as another question. I would enjoy answering the accusations you make.As for the western medias remarks on China's Human Rights, it is not the western media as you phrase it. It is most all the media of the educated world. The rulers of China put their side of the Chinese human rights problem out in their censored news. You do understand the rest of the educated world has different news releases. You may not care for what the world writes but they are not controlled and censored by one political group as the news in China is. There is a saying, if you do not like what is wrote about the facts, change the facts. China and the Chinese people are a very good country and people but the way they see the world is controlled by the rulers of China. There are some who read many different news articles and they have the information to make good decisions. They are also the ones who have been put in jail with no charges and no valid day in court. Again the news organizations of the entire world report this problem with the legal system in China. The American Engineer that was working for the oil company is a example of corrupt court system, arrested and held (with out anybody being notified of his arrest and the Chinese government stating they knew nothing of his where he was) for more than one year before any charges were filed against him. These charges were only filed after the news AP reported the Chinese government was holding him in jail and even then the US Embassy was refused the right to see this American. He was then tried in a secret court with no legal help from his lawyer or the US Embassy on the rulers of China's orders. This is only one case of a few cases reported in China's court system. This was international abuse, the Black Jails in China have been civilian abuse and in violation of the Chinese Constitution, but as so many other human right abuses the rulers of China pretend this is not really happening or they were until just recently.

Being jealous of the rising power of China is the fundamental problem of western powers and their medias.

Face it man. There is good and bad in all people. There is good and bad in most governemnts. I prefer not to be Censored or have the media tell me only what the Governemnt wants me to know. However, i must admit , China is more safe than most western countries. But with theclassdifference, it is changing. Welcome to the modern world.

Always? Western media bash China's human rights record because they can. And they certainly don't do it always.
