Hong Kong working visas?
-
My boyfriend and I are hoping to move to Hong Kong for a few years. He might be getting a job with a construction company and I am now looking for potential work. I was born in Hong Kong but have lived in the UK since I was 2 years old. Will I need a visa to work in Hong Kong, and if so will this improve my chances of getting a visa? Ideally I would like to teach English but I know this is getting increasingly difficult to get a job in. I have a bachelors degree and am going to do a TEFL course. Can anyone give any advice on how to improve my chances? Any information would be much appreciated, thanks

Answer:
If you are born in Hong Kong, you are eligible to apply with your birth certificate for a permanent identity card which is equivalent to being a Hong Kong citizen. Just follow the instructions here: http://www.gov.hk/en/residents/immigration/idcard/roa/verifyeligible.htm

Your chances are quite good. If you are actually in Hong Kong you'll be able to check out the local schools and even if you don't get work immediately, if you approach it right and leave your details in time you'll be able to pick something up. There's also the option of private lessons which are better paid.
