How much does a GUESS wallet cost at Auckland International Airport?

10 hour transit through Dubai airport...tips please?!?

  • Hello! I am flying from Birmingham to Auckland in March and we stop in Dubai - the only problem being that the wait for our next flight is 10hours! I have been looking into lounges at the airport, but you can only book these for 4 hour slots. I have looked at booking a room at the Premier Inn (reasonably priced) too. If you leave the airport, do you need a visa? I have read something on the Emirates website about UK citizens can get a tourist visa for 30 days, but also about a 'transit visa' that is valid for 96 hours, but I think there may be a charge for this. If I leave the airport and proceed to the Premier Inn, when I return for my next flight onwards to Auckland am I required to 'check in' all over again? Will my bag be kept by the airport and automatically transferred to the onward flight? If I stay in the airport however, I guess I am just confined to the departure lounge for the 10 hours? I apologise if all these questions seem very juvenile, but having never been outside Europe this trip is abit daunting! I am used to EasyJet or Thomson flights so any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks :)

  • Answer:

First of all check your baggage directly for Auckland at the check in counter in Birmingham that way it will be automatically taken care of and will be put on your Dubai Auckland flight. The Airline you are travelling should provide you with a free hotel room and a transit visa as your stopover is for 10 hours and you are on such a long haul flight. Finally the Dubai transit lounge is oneof the best in the world and even if have to spend 10 hours there you will have plenty to do, there is even a hotel there itself.

UK nationals (+32 others) don't need the transit visa, just present your passport to any immigration counter and they will stamp a visit visa on arrival. (no charge) http://www.dubaitourism.ae/GettingToDubai/Visa/tabid/83/language/en-US/Default.aspx http://gulfnews.com/uaessentials/tourist-guide/information/visas-in-the-uae-1.16800 There is a hotel in the airport itself , you can find info on that and other airport facilities on this site http://www.dubaiairport.com/DIA/English/Home#

I had a similar wait at Kuala Lumpur airport. I booked into the airport hotel. My baggage was automatically transferred for me but I did have to go through customs again ( not check-in). I didn't pay airport taxes either. If you intend to stay at an airport hotel just email the hotel and they will give you all the info you need.
