Living cost in dubai?

  • I am a software developer, married and have a family of 4 persons (Mom, dad, 1 bro, 1 sis and wife no kids as yet). rite now I am the only person to look after my family. I've been offered a job in UAE for 12K dhms PM All inclusive on permanent basis. Compay is a saif-zone Sharjah based company with businesses in Dubai. Want to know the following. 1. If I took my wife after 4 to 5 months with me to live in dubai for how much we can manage considering I need to send money back home as well at least 2K dhms PM. 2. For how much (average) I can find a living place for me and wife to stay? 3. What will be the living cost for 2 of us (Traveling, Food, Accomodation, Utilities i.e. phone, internet, electricity, water etc).? 4. I need to save atleast as much money so that I can pay for the next year rent as well and my once or twice a year visit to India. 5. A probation of 6 month is offered, Isn't it long enough? 6. Six working days a week. Long working hours? 7. What is the liklihood of getting a good job on SAIF-ZONE Visa? 8. After probation I need to serve a 2 month notice period? Isn't this long enough or common in UAE? If I choose to swith with in dubai or outside before 1 year? can a company impose a ban? 9. What will be my traveling constrains since the passport will be with SAIF-Zone?? With employers permissions can I travle to any where in gulf?? and is saif zone visa is valid for travelling across the gulf region?? 10. What are the pros and cons of SAIF-Zone visa? Your advice and help would be appreciated.

Before I answer all your questions, please be aware that it might be impossible to save the amount for a whole year rent. If you want to send home at least AED 2K you just have AED 10K left. With this amount you have to look for shared accommodation - but when your visa will be issued in Sharjah, you need a tenancy contract in your name. Anyway - let's say you rent a room = around AED 5K, makes AED 5K left. For traveling, food, phone and internet calculate around AED 3K = AED 2 left. I don't think that you will be able to purchase tickets for two for going to India once or twice the year. Probation period of 6 months is common. 6 working days a week are common also. Long working hours? I don't know, please ask the company. 2 months notice to resign is okay also. Switching jobs: every Free Zone has their own Free Zone regulation which have to be followed. Ban can be imposed but also can be avoided by obtaining a NoC. It also depend on from where you will switch to what. Resigning before one year may have the consequences to compensate the employer. Insits on keeping your passport for travel purpose. Regarding UAE Law it is illegal to keep a person's passport and impose a travel ban. For information if you can obtain a visa up on arrival in other countries holding an UAE residence visa, please check the visa rules of these countries. You'll find them online. To make a long story short - AED 12 will not get you far, especially after rent is deducted.
