Ur thoughts on the ammendaments to UAE labour laws regarding salaries, emiratization, categorization & prices?
-
The law ammendaments are as follows "For enterprises to be included under Category I, 20 per cent or more of their total staff must fall under skill levels 1 (degree-holders), 2 (diploma holders) and 3 (unskilled workers). The salary of employees (both citizens and expatriates) under skill level 1 [holders of Bachelor’s degree or higher] should not be less than Dh12,000, according to the new Labour Ministry resolution. Salary for diploma holders should not be less than Dh7,000 and for those who fall under skill level 3 should be paid a minimum of Dh5,000 per month. Private sector establishments that make it to the top category can avail several benefits including a waiver in visa deposit fees and bank guarantees. Minister of Labour Saqr Ghobash said once the new categorisation comes in place, it will give establishments an opportunity to enhance their workplace functions and take advantage of the various benefits that await them." Increase in employee salaries will increase the business cost which will inturn affect the price of services/goods. The cost of living here is already high enough. What is the purpose of such a law. In the end most companies will just wind up operations here and look to invest elsewhere. Add to it, the only benefit is that the deposit(not cost) amount for each employee will be reduced. Which isn't such a big thing anyway. I'd like to know your thoughts on this. Also what do u think is the purpose of this law.

First of all I agree totally with the law ammendaments. There also will be a future classification of establishments and regarding this classification labour cards will be issued. Inflation is caused by new money and new money alone. All other "causes" of inflation are not really "causes" but rather byproducts. Let's say you run your own country and initially print X amount of AED and never print AED again. As long as you don't print more AED, inflation will always be 0 percent. There are a limited amount of AED in circulation and that number will not go up, so prices cannot go up simply because there aren't enough AED in circulation to pay for it. Therefore, inflation is the printing of new money. Now, living costs in the UAE are not high. Just COLA (cost of living allowance) never took place in the UAE. That's why low paid nationals from certain poor countries never were able to negotiate salaries regarding their profession. With category 1 and 2 I agree but think that AED 5K for unskilled work is to much and I don't expect that happening. Please be aware that a deposit costs money. If deposited cash a company doesn't earn any interest and bank guarantees cost money/charges. The purpose for emiratisation is selfexplantory. The unemployment rate among locals need to be reduced and the private sector needs to become more attractive for Emaratis. This might be one reason for the salary increase also. The other one is COLA. Increase of salaries = increase of prices wouldn't be a problem if people spend their salaries in this country. That isn't the case in the UAE because huges amounts are send to other countries instead of being invested in the UAE. Take care. edit: you exactly discovered the secredt/reason for an inflation. We live in a global econonmic world and when prices world wide go up, new money needs to be printed. Welcome to reality:))
