Answer:
In case you don't want to stay in the UAE longer than 96 hrs (4 days), you can obtain a 96 hrs transit visa. This visa can be obtained through Emirates Airlines directley or through the Marhaba service at Dubai Airport. If you want to stay longer than 4 days, you need a tourist visa which you have to obtain at a travel agency, tour operator or hotel. For more infos on the different types of visas please visit the link giving below: http://archive.gulfnews.com/uaessentials/residentsguide/getting_started/10067130.html @Nomad: Hi, not for the 96 hrs visa! Alll nationals byside Afghans and Iraqis can obtain this visa without any prior aggrangements (since last summer). The tourist visa is sponsored by a hotel etc. and visit visas by family members. @Stephan: costs of a tourist visa are Dhs 100 + Dhs 10 for delivery. The Embassy issues visas only for diplomatic staff.

The same as if you were living in India - this applies also if you have British PR. The procedure is someone in the Emirate needs to sponser you to visit it. You cant just walk into a consulate and get a visa stamped. The best thing for you to do is to either book your flight through Emirates and ask them to do the visa for you; or to ask your hotel to arrange a visit visa for you. Usually this is not a problem and can arranged by them easily. You wont have to apply from India. EDIT: @H: what she is saying is right however it does not apply to Indian citizens. Indian citizens have to obtain Dubai visa prior to coming to the Emirates.
