Do I need a Visa to go to Dubai?

  • I am from South Africa and I will joining a cruise in Dubai. Will I need a Visa for the one day that I will be in Dubai, and if so what visa would I need? I will not be returning to Dubai, but only joining the ship there. Thank you.

    In case you will join a ship for work and hold a seamen book, you will be able to obtain a visa on arrival. South Africa is not one of the exempted nationalities for visa-on-arrival , but since you are just leaving the next day you can apply for a transit visa (AKA 96 hour permit) which you can obtain after arrival for a fee. If you are working (employed /sailor) on this cruise , there is a separate visa for sailors which permits you to transit between airports & sea ports in UAE. In all cases you have to produce proof (tickets or reservations / sailor passport & vessel agent letter etc) in order to be granted entry. http://www.dubaitourism.ae/definitely-dubai/entry-formalities

From South Africa, I wouldn't know. However, from my home country, I did not need one. Dubai's passport control would stamp the visa into my passport upon arrival at the airport. You will go into passport control there immediately from getting off of the plane.
