Help!!!!! good high schools in England?

Should I move back to Dubai or not? What do you think I should do? Please help?

  • Right I am a girl currently in year 10 and now lives in the UK. I was brought up in the UK, but at aged 12 I moved to live in Dubai. Two years later we come back to England. Many reasons resulted in this, my dad said he got a good job there that would help improve his career and what not. A couple of months ago, my dad left London and went back to work in Dubai (we are not living in London, we are in another place but he used to come every weekend). He got fed up with life and work here, its tough. The NHS is in a lot of trouble. So its really been difficult for Doctors, nurses and anyone who works in the branch of medicine really. All doctors are seriously overloaded. My dad was working like 13 hours a day. And he just couldn't stand it. So he went back to Dubai months ago. And now wants us all to move with him. And they all think we should move back, the whole family. My mother wants to be with my father, my father loves his work in Dubai, the money is brilliant and our lifestyle there is really good. And it will basically make the whole family happy. We could all be together I suppose. But I'm really worried about school. Its really bad to move between year 10 while doing GCSE's. There will be a tonne of coursework I might have to catch up on. I have to search for schools that have almost the same syllabus as the one I am currently in so I don't struggle as much. A lot of schools in Dubai have already done a big part of their GCSE's. Which means I will struggle. And if we move we will have to move as soon as possible. Like perhaps in a week or something because my mother wants me to catch the term as soon as possible so I struggle less. But then it will be really short notice, and people in school are going to wonder and crap. And on top of that, I will have to travel to Dubai on my own. Because my mother and little sister are currently in Dubai right now. They went like 2 weeks ago, but I couldn't go. They were only planning to go to Dubai as a holiday but now are deciding to stay there permanently. I mean we have been thinking about going to Dubai for months and how it was a big mistake to come here in the first place. But they only decided it now. And to be honest, until now we are STILL not sure. Which is pissing me the hell off because I really want to know as soon as possible. I already got accepted in one school there it is really good and is the best school in Dubai, and one of the most expensive too but I am still not sure about it. So they have to wait till tomorrow till schools open in Dubai and so they can apply to a load of schools. So yeah...this is confusing...and its stressing the crap out of me. I mean don't get me wrong, I miss the crap out of Dubai, but I'm worried about my education getting affected, and how short notice this is. And on top of that, they are really stressing me. They were saying some stuff like ''oh will you be that unhappy if you come to dubai, because if you will we will just go back to england, you can make the decision''. And I don't want to make the decision. Its such a difficult decision for me. Adults are the ones supposed to make these decisions. I'm at that point where I don't actually give a **** about it, I just want them to make a decision, I don't want them making a decision really late and BOOM the next day I must be on a flight to Dubai . So yeah...that's one huge, long, complicated problem. So what would you do or what do you think I should do? Persuade my mother for us to stay here in the UK and my dad carries on working in Dubai. Or should I just go to Dubai and just work really hard and study like hell to try and catch up and stop my GCSE's getting affected. Im just scared I can't manage it? Please help. Thanks in advance.

It sounds that your parents are not able to plan ahead. Why doesn't your father work in Dubai while your mother plans a moving according your school year? If your mother with you and your sister would move in summer 2012 you would have enough time to check out what kind of catching up in school you would have to do and could use your summer break to do so. Would you even have an option to stay in the UK by yourselves? Any relatives to live with? How can a mother say she's going on vacation and then stay away permanently? To strange for me, sorry. All the best.

I'm fed up reading this composition. LOL

I'm also in year 10, and I live in Doha. I am not British, but I love the place. I think you will enjoy returning to Dubai, and having the family all together. If your parents think it is a good idea, chances are they know what they are talking about. A lot of British schools are coordinated with schools in the UK, so they will be at the same place as you. Take a chance, and go for it. If you are really behind, you can always catch up on your own by studying. I would actually think you would be more behind you and you would be ahead of the students in Dubai. I would make the move.

At least finish the first semester of Grade 10 in UK, (even if it takes a week or so more,)bring the result with you and start the second semester in Dubai. That way you wont have to catch much up,just join the new school from 2nd semester. Tell your mom to start applying in Dubai schools on your behalf, get a tentative date for your interview, placement tests, seeing your 1st semester results, new admission wont be that difficult and you wont have to repeat things again. We once made a move when my daughter was in 9th grade. She was studying Spanish in old school while the new place had only French, but still they counted Spanish as 'language studied for one semester' and she just started with French from next semester. Move on!It will take only a few months for your studies to get settled and then you can stay comfortably until school finishes and you join uni.in UK.
