Moving from Dubai to Fujairah. What is it like to live there?
-
I'm a western expat from Australia who moved to Dubai with my wife and 2 young kids late last year. Im finding Dubai to be ridiculously expensive and like one big construction site - so we are considering moving to Fujairah. Does anyone know what it's like to live there? It seems a lot cheaper and is still within 1.5 hours from Dubai. I would appreciate any thoughts/suggestions you might have - especially those who live in the UAE. Thanks in advance!!

I'd tell you, Fujairah isn't really an urban city, it's more rural and kind of on the country side. You might not find it very convenient. I would have suggested you Sharjah or Ajman if you wanted cheaper rates because at least they are more developed and more urban. Oh, and the weather is much better there! I've visited Good Luck

Fujairah is alright, if u like nature and Marine life, than u will like it more because it haves mountains and it is on the Indian ocean dislike Dubai which is on a gulf and full of buildings and cars if u r moving there and still be working in Dubai, then it will be difficult, because the road linking the 2 cities pass through mountains and full of trucks. B/W they are building new road linking Dubai with Fujariah which takes a journey of 75 minutes. i also think that ur children will not like it in the same way they are liking Dubai because there is no much of things to do in fujairah fujairah is developing and will soon be nice place to live in with all these new sea side projects.

I lived in Fujairah for almost 10 years. Fujairah is really nice and calm place. Its fast developing city. I know a company that is planning to invest millions in tourism and aviation sector in Fujairah. But living there and working in Dubai is not a good idea due to the heavy traffic that you will face. Also think about your kids education.

yes Dubai is a bit expensive .. but you don't really have to stay there .. if you find Australia cheaper then you have the option of going back and living there right ?? and about Fujairah .. its a very calm city .. not many options to do and spend time with .. nice nature and weather sometimes .. i know a lot of my friends in Northern Emirates who are studying and working in Dubai/ sharjah .. and go shopping there in Dubai/ Sharjah .. go for leisure of have fun any where (Abu Dhabi .. Al Ain .. Dubai .. sharjah) except Northern Emirates .. its only a place to stay and sleep in .. i personally find it nice place and very quite .. we go there as a change from the city .. but as i told you .. you wont find the quality of things so if you're willing to take it this way .. ok go ahead oz Fujairah is a nice place .. otherwise .. a ticket back to AUS =) good luck ..

It don't seem like that much of a difference. Maybe a little cheaper to live there. But the lifestyle won't change much.

A family member has been 6 years in Fujairah. Housing is cheaper but going up. Still nothing compared to Dubai. Also food is cheaper. We would go down to buy our groceries from Fujairah. More "motels", "hotels" Russians and Chinese looking for lonely men, probably cheaper too. Small city, one main road thru city center. Choitrams and Lulu are there. Nice anything for 2 dhs. shops DHL, western union and all the others are there. Much quieter. Fewer traffic jams, though that one main road is clogged during rush hours. More jinn hanging around that place given the mountains so if there is movement or sound in your apt/house, just ignore it. If your keys dissappear just ask for them back. More asthma attacks in Fujairah given there are more than 330 sites where they are blowing up the mountains so the dust and such is troublesome. Some westerners leave because of the air quality. N o decent "western" school there. There well might be one soon given a large influx of expatriates joining an new educational program. Fujairah is likeable, small but growing. Still time to catch glimpses of original life.

Fujairah is very different from Dubai... Dubai is more liberal, very urban, more of a party city with a lot going on, while Fujairah is just kind of quiet.. I live in Abu Dhabi, it's 45 min- 1 hour away from Dubai, at most, and it is really good for family life.. it's expensive, but I don't think it's as expensive as Dubai? If you want to move somewhere cheaper, I would say move to Sharjah.. I love the souks there, and I think it's the only place in the UAE where you can get Hollister.. which is so random in my opinion anyways. I find Sharjah more interesting :D
