What do Dubai City readers - information seekers really need?
-
we are contemplating launching a free newsletter on Dubai and/or Abu Dhabi. the question is, what kind of a newsletter would be interesting and hold a readers interest and grow the subscribership base? there are a ton of commercial websites on these cities, so what "true need" really exists that can be fulfilled by either a new website or a new newsletter ? what would a reader value? what would make someone subscribe? keep in mind the target audience: anyone visiting dubai, interested in learning more about dubai, someone who recently moved to dubai. this will not be for someone already in dubai for long and who knows a lot about the place. however, if you can think of anything that kind of a target reader would be interested in, please feel free to share your thoughts. thank you in advance for your participation and assistance

Answer:
Well, nice idea, but - many of it's kind exist already. You have the "Essentials" in the Gulf News, Astrid's Startpage and the Questions and Answers of Dubai. Not to long ago the Abu Dhabi Week came out and is provided for free weekly in all malls. This "magazine" provides people with all kind of informations. Events, legal issues, actuell issues, announcesments, etc. I collect them. My personal opinion: magazines/newsletters with common informations are available enough already. What I personal would be interested in are things like: where to get what (like insider knowledge). Sometimes certain groceries/medications are only available in certain stores/pharmacies. Also a "market place/flea market" may be interesting where expats selling stuff. Okay, you can find offers like this at the Classifieds of the dailys and on blackboards of certain stores - but I think this market could be much bigger. Also personal experiences regarding i.e. hospitals, doctors, hairdressers. etc. might be interesting. For tourists hundreds of links exist already. They are not interested to subsribe a newsletter. Keep residents informed what they are interested in. You asked a question regarding your plans/newsletter here, why not starting a poll? Good luck! I will watch your activities and join if needed/wanted. Take care.
