Can you surf in Dubai?

What are Dubai's beaches like?

  • Hello. I'm a 19-year-old surfer from California. I'm visiting Dubai in May. I plan to go to the beach every morning - 8 am to 10 pm - to surf. I'd like to know what the beaches are like, what's the environment like? Am I going to see lots of Arabs? Is it risky for me? Given the fact that I am an American... Also, what's the best way to get to the beach? Take the bus? The taxi? Where I can view the bus routes in Dubai?

    dude to catch the waves you got a hit them at more like 6am . thats when the good waves are. some times they reach 2 meters if your lucky. may could be hot especially in the day. the bus? not with a surf board. they are loaded with workers. hard enough to get on. arabs, maybe, they're mostly friendly though. and for being an american, the time has never been better cause of the danish incedent. i would actually recommend the taxi. from the trade center it would be about 25-35 dhs depending on where you are going. thats 7-10 usd not bad really.

Thanx a lot you guys. Taking a taxi would be rather expensive because the beach is quite far from my relative's place. They live by the World Trade Center and that's where I'll be staying. Is taxi still a good idea? I'm not so sure. I think i might end up taking a bus. Do buses actually stop by the beach? Where can I see a bus schedule?

Beaches are nice in Dubai. They are clean but you may not be able to surf because there aren’t big waves there. There are public beaches and private beaches to hotels. Both are nice. I have been to Jumaira beach. Entrance is 5 dirham which is less than two bucks. At the beach you will find Americans like you, Europeans, Arab, Indian, and Asian. Dubai is a mix of cultural. Everyone feels safe in there. The best way to get to the beach is by taking a taxi. Taxis are widely available, use meters, and not expensive. Have fun.

Yes bus is after all a cheep option, as the taxi is bit expensive in Dubai. You can find the bus schedule at your nearest bus stop or you can call their customer service number (800-4848) to get the information about bus route.
