Moving to Tunisia - Need more Info?
-
Hello, I am considering a move to tunisia. And now I am taking this to final steps. As part of my research, I would appreciate this information. 1. Rent of 1-2 bedroom apartment in Tunis/Monastir. Not in tourist area, but in decent muslim neighborhood. I will appreciate the price for furnished/unfurnished. 2. Cost of 1-2 bedroom apartment in Tunis/Monastir. Not in tourist area, but in decent muslim neighborhood. I will appreciate the price for furnished/unfurnished. 3. Fee in Public School. Tunisiabelle has advised public school over private and I trust her opinion. 4. This question has been asked many times. But many things changed since then. Cost of living like Food, Utilities, transport, Medical, Entertainment, Eating out etc. 5. Which city is a good place to find English speaking or IT manpower? 6. Are tunisians hard working or laid back? 7. What does it take to start a business in tunisia. Any minimum investment? I honor all of your opinions and appreciate your efforts. Thanks.

Answer:
1.) Cost of an apartment will depend on a few things. All neighborhoods here are nice, decent Muslim neighborhoods. Cost will depend on where in the city you want to rent (both Tunis & Monastir have really nice areas, some that are cheaper than others), & what amenities you want. The more amenities, the higher the price. Do you want central heating or no? Do you want gaz du ville or gaz that you buy in a bottle? Do you want air conditioning or not? Do you want a great view or does it not matter? Furnished will cost more than unfurnished. All these play a factor in the price. You can find rents as low as 200TND a month up to 1000TND a month, with the average being around 250-350TND a month. 2.) Again, the cost of an apartment depends on where in the city you are looking & what amenities you want. I have never seen an apartment for sale that comes furnished. The cost to buy an apartment starts around 40,000TND on the very low end & only goes up from there. 3.) Public schools are free. The only thing you have to buy is the school supplies (pencils, books, etc), & a little uniform jacket (it helps to keep their clothes clean & is mandatory). I should advise you that you will need to talk to the superintendent of the school district where you will live before placing your children in school. They will need a copy of your childs birth certificate, & former school transcripts. 4.) Private doctors will run you 20-35TND a visit. Specialist doctors cost more, & of course any surgeries, X-rays, etc will depend on what you are having done. --Here are two links to questions I answer your questions on entertainment, utilities, transport, eating out, and food prices: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ApZNKMM33hlePMgpPHEwAj4H7RR.;_ylv=3?qid=20080816043224AAfqX0h http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Aoyx0T7WXCK1C7djJwcov68H7RR.;_ylv=3?qid=20080824120318AATA611 5.) I do not know the exact answer, but if I had to guess, I would say Tunis since it is the capitol and a lot of international commerce is done there. 6.) Both. You can find very hard working Tunisians who do everything & anything that they have to in order to get the job done. However, when Tunisians are not working, they are very laid back & know how to enjoy themselves. Even in the work force you will find that Tunisians have a very easy, friendly disposition. 7.)
