Cities in south africa?

  • what cities have you visited in south africa, did you enjoy it and why or why not.... Thinking of holiday city

  • Answer:

I spent 24 days in South Africa for the 2010 World Cup this past summer. I spent a week in Cape Town, about a week in Durban (Amanzimtoti neighborhood), a week in Johannesburg, and a couple days in Pretoria/Rustenburg area. It depends on what you want to do while you are there. Cape Town is by far the most beautiful city in South Africa (perhaps the world). You can take a cable car up Table Mountain, tour Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned, take a bus ride to the Horn of Africa, and you can even tour the countryside and drink some fine wines while you're there. Some of the best wine I've ever had actually. The city center and waterfront areas also have a lot to offer in the way of culture and good food. If you are just looking to relax, and maybe enjoy the beach, I would recommend Durban, where it is warm year-round, but probably not the city center, as it is a rough city. I stayed in Amanzimtoti, which is about a 35 minute drive south of the city center, right on the Indian Ocean. If you have an ocean view, you will be able to see sperm whales jumping around out in the ocean from time to time, and you will be at most a 10 minute walk from the nearest beach. Johannesburg is a sprawling mega-city, but if you want to learn about SA's history and people, you can check out the sites here. The Apartheid museum is a must-see for anyone wanting to learn about the country's troubled history. Pretoria can be a good day-trip if you want to see where the government resides. Rustenberg is out in the middle of nowhere, but it is very close to Pilanesburg National Park, which is a wonderful place to see wild animals - but if that's the reason for your trip, then Kruger National Park would be the better place to do a safari or game-drive. One final word of advice. I would recommend booking through a local South African travel agency to ensure that you are staying in a safe area. Trust me, I learned the hard way! Hope this helps.

As a South African I would highly recommend the Cape, and the Kruger Park(South(Mpumalanga region), it is amazing and has a good "Harry's Pancake" place :D But otherswise i think everywhere in SA is beautiful, You just need to take time to discover it:)

Take it from a south african. Warmbaths (Bela bela) Is a good place, just very touristy. Same with Cape Town. You could try port alfred, absolutely gorgeous. Or Hamburg. It depends on what you are looking for
