Hello, I am an American who spent summers in Hawaii as a child. For anyone who has been to both Honolulu, Hawaii and South Africa, what city or cities is most similar to Honolulu, Hawaii, USA in terms of: A. Quality of ocean waves for water sports B. Climate Thanks

Answer:
Durban has a climate most similar to Hawaii being sub tropical with quite a lot of rainfall. The water is warmer than Hawaii though. Good surfing can be found in a number of spots. Durban works well on an offshore wind in Durban Bay where you should try North Beach and Country Club beach for the good sandbank breaks. The sandbanks occur off the ends of piers. Ansteys beach in Durban on the Bluff works on a light Easterly and good reef and sand breaks can be found there, if the surf is big good tube rides can be had at Cave Rock. Jeffries Bay and Cape St Francis are good point breaks close to Port Elizabeth. Jeffries Bay was the beach made famous by the movie "Endless Summer", on a 8 to 10 foot day Jeffries really pumps with tube rides and fast waves to be had for rides as long as up to 500 metres. Cape Town can be surfed at Muizenburg which generally a gentler smaller wave but if you want some action surf Long Beach on the Atlantic side and if the surf gets up to over 8 ft then surf Outer Kom or "Dungeons" as it is known these days off Noordhoek Beach. There is over 4000 km of coastline and you will find good waves in a lot of places depending on wind and surf conditions, but you will generally get a wave. Watch out for bluebottles and Jellyfish in Durban 2mm wetsuit is fine Jeffries down to Cape Town the water temp drops all the way down so 5mm wetsuit would be recommended. Durban has a sub tropical climate with lush vegetation The Eastern Cape is Temperate to hot and Western Cape is hot with a winter rainfall pattern. There is also good diving and the seafood is second to none. If you want any help planning and executing your trip contact me at the website below.
