Do I need my own hotel reservation for my Chinese visa?

South African Visa - how do you make a hotel reservation online that does not need pre-payment?

  • I am travelling to visit my brother Cape Town and I need a South African visa. I went to the embassy and they said they wanted proof of accommodation. I am staying at my brothers and will basically be sleeping on the sofa. If I am staying with him then they want all sorts of paperwork as a sponsor and bank statements etc - he is just a broke student. What I decided to do was to make a hotel booking online and then cancel it later. But all the sites I have gone to want payment in advance! Are there any sites where I can make a free booking and then cancel it just so I have something to show the visa people? Thanks for answers

try booking with a hotel direct - ask them to send you confirmation of the booking - usually if you book direct you have about two weeks to pay the deposit. In the meantime they would have sent you the confirmation already, sort out your paperwork and then cancel the booking once you have your visa.
