Are there any Christmas Markets in South Africa?
-
It´s something I have not thought about before, but with the Christmas Markets all over, and in every town in Germany, I was wondering whether we have something similar in SA. Like stands with Christmas articles, Glühwein or other Christmas drinks, Lebkuchen (Gingerbread), Christmas tree decorations and similar. There are also rides like at a funfair, and the always present pretzels, jam doughnuts, waffles, and sugarcoated almonds etc. I can only think of the Craft Markets, or is there something similar in SA?

Answer:
No cakes as far as I know there is nothing defined as a Christmas market in the Eastern cape, just craft stalls selling Christmas things, but there is a shop in PE called the Christmas shop that only opens from 1 November until 24 December every year in different locations in the city that sells beautiful imported Christmas decorations, fake snow, singing Santa clauses etc. real European or American stuff that we cannot buy here but it is extremely expensive eg R 150 for one glass ball(bauble) but then it is the most beautiful glass ball you've ever seen with a Reindeer inside it and gold and glitter "falling" when you shake it. As for pretzels I have never eaten one of those giant pretzels I think you are referring to..............only the little hard ones in packets.

As far as I know the Christmas market on Adderley Street in Cape Town should kick off in the next days... That's all I know. (I am so new to Christmas in summer, I still don't have any Christmas feelings! So used to Christmas in winter...)

I know in most of the big shopping malls they have Christmas markets. We went to Clear water mall this weekend and the whole place was full of people selling goodies, not only Christmas stuff.
