Is South Africa the most developed country in Africa?

    South Africa has been the most developed country in Africa for decades.It has a much greater industrial production ,by far, than other African country.It generates more electricity than the rest of Africa together.It's agriculture is the pride of the continent.It has the largest oil from coal production in the world.It runs rings around the much more populous Nigeria,never mind the North African Arab states.It's Gini coefficient is high because of the wide gap between the richer and poorer segments of the population.But it's middle class is the largest in Black Africa.There is a tremendous gap between South Africa and its nearest African rivals.

I consider GDP a good indication of how developed a country is. South Africa has the highest GDP in Africa. Next is Egypt by a margin of about 150 billion dollars. If you compare it with say any of the countries in the UN Security Council, then of course it is a huge gap, but for Africa it is #1.

I live in South Africa, and from what I can see and all the other African countries I've looked at, yes, South Africa is the most developed. For example, Cape Town was voted no.1 best destination for 2011 on www.tripadvisor.com Cape Town is extremely built up and I can find everything I want here. So is Johannesburg, there's nothing New York or London has that we don't.

Well, besides all the economical and statistical mumbo jumbo, one has to travel to other African countries in order to make up your own mind regarding the question. South Africa is seriously far more developed than any other nation in Sub Sahara Africa.
