Would a black american have any problems going to the south of Brasil, Santa Catarina area?

Black American Girl in college in South Africa?

  • I'm thinking about colleges that I'll attend next year and one of the most random ones that struck my interest was The University of Cape Town in South Africa. With more research I learned the extent of the positive qualifiations this school posseses and it seems like a nice area. However (and please do not take any of my statements as ignorant. I have never been to South Africa and all opinions are based off outside sources) I wondered if the apartheid and all of that stuff was still going on. I mean, I understand it's over but is the area racist towards blacks? As a black American will I be welcomed by all South African citizens? I find every race to be attractive, but will there be problems if I were interested in dating a white South African boy? Just my curiosities. Please provide any additional information if you'd like. :)

I think nowadays you need to be more worried if you're white in SA, they're the ones getting killed, a whole new apartheid really, I'm sure you'll be fine though. . . . .most places I've been (incl. SA) generally the university areas are quite safe and ok to be in. Anyway don't let it stop you if you want to go, it will probably be a great experience! Good luck :)

cape town is the most multicultural city in the world. but the most spoken language in cape is afrikaans, followed by xhosa, then 27% speak english. cape town has people of all races not just white and black and university of cape town is the best university in africa, especially their medical school because that is where the first heart transplant was made in cape province. but see university website first or contact the univarsity to see if you can be admitted. don't worry about racism, many of us can't even pronounce that word. anyone can live in cape town.

Yeah you'll be okay just watch TV to see how South Africa is like the Soccer World Cup is currently being hosted in SA, Cape Town is a nice place moved there from Pretoria, you can also check out Cape Peninsula University of Technology, StellenBosch University and University of the Western Cape. and as a side note to Tuten we did you get your info from and most importantly how did you come to the conclusion that white people are being singled out for killings,

You'll def be welcomed by most!! As you know, you get ******* in ALL countries, and we also have our fair share, of all colours and creeds. There won't be issues if you date another race!! :) CT is very cosmopolitan, you'll love it!!

I think it's not a problem at all. When it comes to love and dating, it doesn't matter race or nationality. South Africans are very tolerant people, and if you happen to fall in love in a South African boy (which I wish you) - it will be up to your brains and looks, and not to your race or nationality to win his love.. Good luck! :)
