Is the ANC's social engineering as to where people should and must live the new "Group Areas Act"?
-
Why is it that according to the ANC, people should not have the freedom of choice to live freely where they can afford to live under principles of economic viability and with neighbours of similiar cultural identity? I am not saying that the different races should be kept separated but sociall integration is already taking place in the suburbs and former "white areas", why must the ANC interfere with a natural process that needs to run its course over a time frame of possibly 50 years? Is their legislation that is being finalised to force property developers to develope low cost housing in wealthy areas the new "Group Areas Act"? I believe it to be, they are forcing their hand as to where people can and cannot live and how developers can and cannot build, this is fascism in its true definition.

Answer:
I also live in a formerly "white" area (the best in town, lol) and I can also say that this integration is taking place naturally. What will happen to high-cost housing if you place low-cost housing next to it? Anyone? Yes class, the worth of the high-cost area will fall and then it wont be high-cost housing anymore...

The ANC must interfere with anything that might possibly have worked.

Its called "forced integration" and the idea is to build low cost housing in wealthier suburbs so that those who could not afford to live there can now do so. They will then expose others to their "cultures and traditions" thereby either forcing you to move or bringing down the value of your property. It is all part of the Marxist ideology that "everyone is equal" but that of course does not apply to the elite.

It has not been passed yet parlament has not even debated it yet it was just a sugestion. Why are you jumping the gun. I don't understand logic how are you equating it to the Group Areas Act. The Goup Areas Act sepparated people and this one will bring people to the same area. I understand if your concern was about you property value dropping. But you just don't want to live with black people thats all.

Bull, my friend, do you miss your cigarettes? I take that you are going through a difficult transition. Sooner, you'd be okay. When did the ANC force people to live in a particular area as expressed in your question? It's a fact that in the South Africa context, "similar cultural identity" means racial segregation. I accept that you used "Group Areas Act" for lack of better words. But what the ANC is saying is simple; the government cannot support a situation that disguises racial exclusion under the pretence of economic affordability. We are for integrated social and economic settlements. The way the country was planned - and if we proceed on that basis, blacks will remain farther and farther from their work and CBDs. Other than that, if we continue with the planning as designed by apartheid, black areas would remain black areas and white areas would have a sprinkle of blacks. Politically, there is no justification for such practice. We want that new housing developments (which are mainly wealthy villages) must have a mix of middle income without disturbing the proposed village. Unless we can be shown proof of anywhere in the world where such a concept failed, we believe that it is possible to do so. We are aware that in most cases, these "security villages" are built to maintain "similar cultural identity". That is wrong! We cannot afford to push blacks away from the economic hub of our towns and cities. They are the less economically fortunate, but we still want them to travel long distances to their work and shopping centres. The new requirement does not introduce new Group Areas Act. We are just putting the final nail in the practice of that Act. *ADD* Bull......and in the meantime we should build house away from the CBDs and work places? That does not make sense. The natural course you refer to is accessible to those in the higher income bracket. People need houses now - not fifty years to come!
