Afrikaans is relatively easy to learn...much easier than English. Afrikaans has elements of Dutch, Flemish, Gaelic Scottish and German in it plus local patois built up over the last 360 years. In the early 20th century Afrikaners started the formal recording and teaching of the language prior to that High Dutch or English was used for documents depending on what they were. For example Cape Roods were used as a land measurement right up to the 1960's. It is an interesting language with a colourful history and should be preserved. It is probably still the most commonly spoken and understood language in South Africa and is a 2nd or 3rd language for most South Africans.
It depends what your root language is. Afrikaans belong to the Germanic group and if you are already familiar with others in that group, it should be easy. You find Spanish and Portuguese easy because of its Latin root with English. For instance I learned Spanish in six weeks while studying in South America.
easy if u know dutch but have to get pronounciation rite

Hi, It depends, it can be hard, however if you put your mind to it and develop a love for it you will persevere at it and do well. Its not very similar to Dutch but if a Dutchman were to speak to an Afrikaner they would be able to relate to each other. I would suggest that you learn basic phrases, if you intent on coming to South Africa they you don't really need to understand it because most Afrikaners speak fluent English. Zulu is spoken more widely and not all Zulus here speak English. Zulu would be very difficult for you to learn because it is an African language. I used to perform badly at Afrikaans at school, but when I put my mind to it and developed a love for it I started doing well.

Depends. If your native tongue is Dutch, it's fairly easy. The pronunctiation is a bit different, and there are some words you'd have to learn, but apart from that it'd be a piece of cake. If your native tongue is English, it'd be somewhat harder, but still doable. @Daleen Kruger Flemish is not a language, it's the same as Dutch.

Some people claim it's difficult, but I think they just don't WANT to learn. Because seriously, Afrikaans grammar and spelling is f-ing easy. I found some website offering free Afrikaans lessons, only to find out that you have to pay for it. Very confusing...

Afrikaans is closer to Flemish than Dutch.
