Has anybody ever come across anything like my Uncle did in South Africa?
-
He just told me today that he has had quite a few scary moments on his trips to South Africa that even scared me a bit thinking, how did he get out of them alive? I will just name 3 of the moments. One was when he got lost and took a wrong turn and drove into a homeless camp and all people started jumping on his car. He got so scared he just put his foot down and all bodies went flying in the air. If he ever injured someone he will never know. Another moment that I found quite scary was when this man in a jeep told him to stop as there was a rhino coming. The Rhino came right up to him and sniffed at his finger and he got all the rhino's slime on his hand. Last of all I don't know if there is anyone on here that gets a newspaper in South Africa as he once made the headlines for swimming in the sea where a great white shark had been. He got in a lot of trouble though for doing it. I just wondered if there is anyone else who lives in the UK or USA who's been to South Africa and come across smiler experiences. Also why did those people at that homeless camp just started jumping on his car trying to attack him? South Africa must be a very dangerous place if your not careful. He is also going back there for 3 weeks to watch the world cup. That's all I have to say about this question. Hope I get some answers.

Answer:
im from SA :) its amazing....but unfortunately all that seemed very possible......but the rhino one: unless he was in a game farm, that is imposable, rhinos are not found anywhere where people may live unless they live on the game farm) EDIT - yes if u drive through a squatter camp, that can happen! it happened to my mom, cos tehre is still a grudge against white peopel (sometimes) and also they may have wanted the car, lol oh and "onetime"......we have airports in SA........

Well lets see, unless he did something to really piss the people off I dont believe it for a second, Rhino's wont come anywhere near a person unless they're charging in which case your uncle wouldnt be around anymore to tell that story and you dont get into trouble for taking your own life in your hands - its a well known fact that we have great whites swimming off our coast so if he ignored the flags and went swimming anyway i doubt anyone would have really given a rats @ss. Im gonna tell you not to believe everything you hear.

:) Hilarious! For your uncle to be ANYWHERE near a rhino he'd have to be in a game reserve, and no one is allowed to drive through a game reserve in their private vehicles. As for people jumping on his car... I've lives in SA for 22 years and I've never experienced even a remotely similar incident to this. And yes, we have great white sharks swimming around here. If they were in the waters, there would be flags up. If your uncle ignored the flags, that's his thing. Great story teller, your uncle is.
Hi there! Hey South Africa is not that bad!! I am a french women with a french culture, ect... I am living in a very cosmopolitain area of Cape Town, and it is only a wonderfull experience so far. Poverty makes people mad and we can't only understand because we eat everyday, and that allows us thinking and keeping straight. Poverty, inequality, and addiction are the reason for crime in this country. I am a tour guide and I am going to township, to game reserve, to wild places, to the winelands.. and I can only tell you that this country as an amazing potential and that the people there are wonderfull. But you need to be open, need to have good knowledge of the country. If you understand its past, you'll deal with much more awareness with present situation. Also, it is important when traveling to have a good idea of what to do , where to go ect.. I traveled backpack in small village in west africa, in Madagascar, East Europe... The rules are the same all over... I hope your uncle will have a better time and that he'll enjou the world cup! Best Lucile

Never get lost and drive into squatter camps. Its attack of the zombies. Rule number 1: Never get lost in South Africa. Rule number 2. Stay with your tourist guide and heed their advice, you cannot 'sniff' the danger until you have lived here for many years and know what to avoid.
