What is the best domestic airline?

What are your best/worst experiences with an airport/airline?

  • The baggage was lost, the lifts did not work, 38 flights were cancelled and angry passengers were left waiting for hours in appalling conditions. Some of them are still waiting tonight and their luggage has gone forever....! Which airport was this, was it in South Africa with our Sub-Saharan low IQ staff....? Err....actually no, it was the brand new Terminal 5 at Heathrow... great way to start the first day for a £4billion new terminal. I have had many experiences with British Airways and Heathrow and few of them have been good. Old SAA never treated me badly, have also flown Emirates (luxury), KLM (friendly), Air Portugal (bad), Ryanair (cheap and cheerful) and Alitalia (food not bad for an airline)!!! What are your best/worst experiences with an airline?

  • Answer:

Other than my airplane catching on fire at the terminal after boarding, bringing at a furious pace several fire engines, air traffic controllers and a police squad that looked to be the Heathrow equivalent of Scotland Yard...meanwhile, our stewardesses and stewards were rushing about with plastic smiles, assuring us through clinched teeth that everything was under control... we sat on the tarmac for 40min in a plane that was on fire... nope, they put it out... wait! more smoke and flames! "Everyone please stay calm and please stay seated until the seat belt sign goes off!" lol... not really, but it was about that ludicrous.... and then being herded around the airport like a potential terrorist for hours, only to be shuttled around the airport for hours to find another connecting flight to no avail... 14 hour delay... a bunch of really annoyed passengers, including four dozen peeved, tired, swearing Brits... inadequate BA staff... long delays with no explanations... and because of those complications, that particular trip stretched to 84 hours of sleepless misery... So - other than that?

Worldwide all new Airports have had teething problems -check out Hong Kong. At least the staff werent sitting around with their fingers up their noses smelling like a rotten cabbage. And did you know that when they extract their fingers from their noses they flick the contents around or eat it. According to the United States embassy, 14 Americans in the past 12 months have been robbed at gunpoint after landing at the OR Tambo international airport in Kempton Park, Beeld newspaper reported on Tuesday. The embassy said that gangs of robbers targeted people arriving at airport and robbed them either at their destinations or on the way to their destinations. The embassy's website warned that organised criminal gangs were targeting visitors and residents at shopping malls and at the OR Tambo airport. "When a victim is identified he or she is followed to his or her destination and robbed, usually at gunpoint, though the use of violence is generally limited to those who offer resistance."

BA are far and away the worst airline I have ever used. They abuse their customers at every opportunity, and don't give a sh*t! Every time i have used them it has been a disaster and when I raised concerns I was shouted at...told I had no right to complain...and offered a cup of coffee because they had resold a seat I had bought a month earlier!!! BA are absolute scum.

I have flown with Qantas, BA, SAA, Pacific Blue, Air New Zealand, Amerijet International, American Airlines and Emirates. Thankfully, I have not had a bad experience with any one of them besides a slight delay, here and there, although BA would definitely be at the bottom of my list. Taking comfort, food and the general service into consideration, I will always endeavour to fly with Emirates Airlines. Back in the good old days, I even flew with Air Zimbabwe on a regular basis, internally and to SA. There is no need to tell you what state that airline is in now. My best experience was flying to Milan from Johannesburg and having a good laugh at witnessing how the Italian officials refused a group of Ghana nationals entry into the country from the airport despite having all their documents in order.

Actually, Emjay, I have to be a bit biased on choosing the best airline, as one of my twin brothers is a pilot and my younger sister, an air hostess, with Emirates Airlines. I always fly with Emirates and avoid any other airline, if I can help it. I have flown with Qantas on a few occassions, and have been quite satisfied with the service.

Try flying Ariana - fellow passengers will light small fires in the walkway and brew tea, and all the bagage is kept in the emergency exits of the acient Russian cold war aircraft...

my worst experiance was with continental airlines, flying from birmingham uk, changing at chicagao to fly to san fransisco. Plane was 3 hours late leaving so i missed my connection in chicago, no plane till the next day, the hotels were full so i had to sleep in the airport for 12 hours, went to get the plane. Delayed 4 hours. They lost my bag by the time i got to sanfransico. Trip From hell!!!

I had three bad experiences. . .that does not include lost luggage and airport delays. 1) Once while flying out of Windhoek Namibia to Cape Town we lost the right hand engine after forty minutes out, turned back and landed on one, waited six hours and took off with a replacement. SAA 2) While flying out of Merida Yucatan in Mexico to LAX California we lost pressure and the oxygen masks dropped. Just prior to this there was this strong chemical smell. We landed in Monterrey Mex, after one hour they said we are good to go, however, all the passengers said NO we are not going on that plane. After five hours we boarded another flight. Mexicana Airlines 3) After having spent two weeks traveling in ancient Yemen I continued my flight to Mumbay/Bombay. Muslims were just returning from the Huge all dressed in white and carrying plastic containers full of 'Holly water' from Mecca. About twenty minutes into the flight commotion broke out a few rows behind me, yelling and screaming. Then a full blown fight broke out all over the passage way and in the seats by about twenty combatants. The guy in the seat next to me said the Hindu woman claimed a Muslim man in the seat behind her had touched her. The plane was diverted to Dubai where Security and Military came aboard to arrest about half a dozen passengers involved in the three fights that took place since takeoff from San'a Yemen. Air Canada! Delayed for 9 hours on the way from Manchester - Toronto. There was going to be a massive firework display above Niagara Falls that night but because of the delay we missed that, then on the way home the plane was delayed for 12 hours because (this is what I heard off one of the staff) when we were supposed to be getting ON the plane in Toronto it was still sitting in Manchester!!! So obviously it had to fly over, add fuel, clean plane etc! Disaster! Second time i flew with them it was brilliant though.
