Which German beer brands do you like the most?

How many different brands of beer does one find in South Africa?

  • How many different kinds, and how many breweries? In Germany there are close to 5 thousand different brands, and 1300 breweries and 30 different kinds (varieties) of beer like pils, alt, bock, weisser, weizen, export and dunkel etc.

Black Label and now Hansa is making beer too ! ( I think they call it Marzen Gold ) Nay: Caste ,Amstel , Windhoek and Heineken is a lager not a beer . Hunters is a cider . It was not me who gave you the TD ,I just wanted to help you out .

That will be difficult to say. I'm sure not nearly as much as in Germany. The South African breweries brew a whole bunch, which is the product that is mainly consumed. We also have a few of our own "Micro breweries" - there is one close to my House - it is located in Shongweni - I support the brewery cause I think there beer is good. I also have the brewer work in my garden for extra money (On the weekends that he is not brewing). There is another one in the KZN Midlands - in Nottingham Rd - also fantastic beer from there. I got married in Cape Town - just before moving back to Durban and my best man organised my bachelor party in a brewery near Hermanus - called the Birkenhead - from what I can remember that too was a fantastic brewery. It's a pity that here in SA the people don't support their local breweries like the people do in Europe, over here SAB has by far the largest piece of the pie.
