Is it possible that a civilisation like ours has already existed?

How Western is Western Civilisation anyway.......?

  • I notice Alf is always bleeting about Western civilisation, recently he was going on about not stealing being a Western, i.e. European value....Strange I thought the Ten Commandments were fundamentally JEWISH, i.e. Middle Eastern. So let's have a look at how Western, i.e. European, this civilisation is.. 1. Mathematics- thanks to the Indians and the Arabs we have numbers and the modern system of mathematics. Pythagoras may also have been inspired by the, dare I say, African Egyptians. 2. Christianity, Islam and Judaism, well.... Abraham was a Middle Eastern, an ancient Iraqi.... 3. Writing. The oldest writing in the world is from Sumer in Iraq. the alphabet we use comes from the Middle East, Phoenicia via Greece and Rome. So three pillars of Western civilisation are not Western at all. As for Alf's ancestors, just remember my Italian ancestors who he always derides as "wops" and "i-tays" built a damn big wall to keep his lot out and separare his country from CIVILISATION.....

    Your right man, we westeners seem to forget where the basis of our knowledge comes from! Maybe a better question is "How civilised is Western Civilisation anyway?" The inquistion, conquistadors, the crusade, the holocast, KKK, apartheid... i could go on couldnt i?

I do not think that your information is correct, the Greeks, were the first with Mathematics, If it was not for Europe, and its educational systems and Financial help for Africa, I think Africa, would not be third world, But fifth world, What has any place in Africa, done to help civilization, except for poverty, wars, killings, death, corruption.... Admit it, no matter what you say, just look at Africa, and tell me what they have accomplished besides the latter....

This reminds me... when asked what he thought of western civilization, Gandhi responded thus; "I think it would be a good idea."... I can't remember if that was his exact words, but it illustrates the point that purveyors of "western ideals" always prefer to sweep under the rug, i.e. that the west's grandeur (and let's not kid ourselves here; it is pretty grand) was built by preying on other peoples; for instance, the Brits didn't build their empire in order to "spread civilization" (as would be argued by the likes of Alf), they built it to consolidate as much natural resources and cheap labour as they could get, and the needs or rights of the people they got it from never really amounted to much. Hey, that's just the way these things work.

Interesting facts.. But I can tell you something for nothing.. The Italians builds the greatest cars in the world ! Both my parents came from The Netherlands. The only car they build is called a SPYKER. Go Figure ! At least they can build Dam Walls.... LOL
