Not sure about Kenya but I did recently traveled to South Africa in July for about a month. I was selected to take part of an annual training (military) in South Africa, so I really only had 6 days off to adventure out in Port Elizabeth and Grahamstown. Port Elizabeth has an airport, beach, rugby team and souvenirs shops where you can actually negotiate prices. I didn't have that much time to adventure out during the daytime, but I did get go out and pet rare (think about 400 world wide) white lion cubs and purchase souvenirs. Rest of the 4 nights we were invited bars, clubs and dinner at some formal restaurant where $30, will get you 3 piece of meat such as boar, kudo, zebra and some other different types. Grahamstown was where I was stationed at, Its a small town that you can see everything in about 4 hours. About 20 mins away, is a safari went to during our day off. We only did the day safari since we were required to report back by night. It cost us about $100-$120 and included an hour or two, searching for what ever we came across. After that, we had 3 course meal w/ open bar followed by an hour safari drive back in the night. Our driver told us that animals were active during the night. Overall, the meal was well worth the $100 to be honest. The resort was not crowed at all, so it a smooth dinner service. I would say its a nice place to get away if you pick the right spots. There is much more to do during the day, I wished I had more time during the day. I throw a couple links to paint the picture. Also, majority of the safari will not guarantee you will see specific animals.

Definitely South Africa! Much safer and much much more to do! Around april the weather is quite nice, but not majorly hot. Come to Cape Town and find a hotel around camps bay/clifton area. Although that waters are quite chilly the beaches are really nice and it is in the city centre. You can find a safari at a place called Aquilla Game Reserve, its really nice and just a few hours out of cape town

There is malaria all along the Kenyan coast, so best to go to South Africa. Cape Town has lovely beaches, as does Durban. Don't ever go off the beaten track. Book into a hotel on the beach front. Beware pickpockets, etc. Don't go wandering off - this applies to anywhere in Africa. If you stay on the beach front and just cross the road to a busy beach, you should be fine. Safari parks are in completely different areas of the country. If you book a safari tour, check first if there is malaria in the area (there is in most safari parks). Don't forget to take out good medical insurance - that will cover you for your pregnancy.

Definitely go to South Africa especially if you want to go to the beach There is a great safari area called Kruger National Park and it does both daytime and night time safaris and you can actually stay inside the park and hear lions roaring at night. Its very cool Unfortunately this is no where near the beach (I would go to Jeffreys Bay for this) so hopefully you can do both because both areas are totally worth it Have fun! :)

South Africa is definatly better and a lot safer than Kenya. It wont be very warm in April because its Fall there and not spring but probably the best beach would be around cape town. A great place to go on safari is the Singita Ebony lodge the safaris there are amazing!

Kenya is fine but if you choose to visit South Africa, I recommend Cape Town, Garden Route, Durban and take a flight to Kruger National Park for a lifetime safari experience.
