What what to do if my wife is harrased in marrakech?

  • We are off to Marrakech this week and am aware that we need to dress conservatively. If my wife is harrased or touched in Marrakech how do we handle it? How far can I go? Any advice?

    Just yell at them. Just publicly shame them. Some Moroccan guy tried to hit on my friend's mom. My friend is a scary guy when angry. Lets just say when he yelled at the guy hitting on his mom, the Moroccan guy peed himself. It was hilarious for me as a bystander. My friend's message got across and know the guy probably thinks twice before hitting on a woman with a guy with her. Moroccan men will hit on your wife. They will leer, they will make comments. Just make it obvious that your wife is yours. When I was living in Morocco I walking down the street with my friend, she is a tall blonde. Then a swarm of teen males started trying to hit on her. Then I just grabbed her arm, and linked them. And they then dispersed away. It was like magic. If I got a dirham every time i pretended to be someones husband, I would be able to get my own riad. Be territorial, possessive, and use intimidation. [I know that this takes womens lib back a few centuries, but when you are in Morocco over protectiveness is needed] I have so many stories. Enough for me to not want any female that I know to travel in Morocco without a guy with them! Guy get sexually harassed in Morocco too. That is for another time..

No one will touch your wife, I go to Morocco all the time and its perfectly fine, even when I'm in a bikini on the beach! People stare but don't harass/touch

Dressing conservatively is no barrier to some of the deviants in Morocco who will rub up sexually against a woman (especially in a crowded area such as Djma El Fna, the police have done under-cover sting operations there in the past) ....I've seen the aftermath of such behavior inside a Marjane Supermarket store where an unaware young woman who was covered head-to-toe had semen dripping down the side of her long skirt. Someone who lived in Morocco pointed it out to me. All I have to say is keep a close eye on your wife regardless of how modestly she is dressed, those guys will take advantage of a lone female.

the only harassment you will get in marrakech's busy places is from people who sell things, and you can just tell them no! if you don't want to buy
