What is the best way to get to Morocco from Barcelona?

• We are students studying in Barcelona. We want to take a trip to Morocco later this month. We don't want to fly into Morocco, we would rather fly somewhere in the South of Spain and take a ferry over. Where should we fly, and what city in Morocco should we go to? Thanks!

• Answer:

  Obviously, the most Northern city in Morocco is Tangiers. It has both an airport (Ibn Batouta Int'l airport / TNG) and two ferry ports (the old Tangiers port, and the new TangerMed "Passagers" port). You can take a ferry from Algeciras or Tarifa to Tangiers (since 2010, the ferries from Algeciras go to TangerMed, which is outside the city). So you would go to Algeciras or Tarifa. I don't know if you'll find cheap flights, but try flying to Malaga as well, it's not far from Algeciras by train. (You may just as well fly directly in to Tangiers from Barcelona using Jet4You, or from Madrid using EasyJet or Ryanair. Technically you fly only some kms into Morocco :-)) Anyway, you should land in whatever is the cheapest and/or most convenient city, or ferry to Tangiers. Keep in mind it's easy and convenient to travel between cities (trains, buses…) so you can adapt you trip, for instance, pending prices and availability: 1. Go to Algeciras (train from Barcelona e.g.) or Tarifa 2. Ferry to Tangier, visit the city (remember that of you ship to TangerMed, you have to take a free bus shuttle to the old Tanger Ville port, or a bus to Ksar Sghir train station) 3. Travel by train to Rabat (~5hr), visit the city 4. Travel by train or bus to Fes (~2 hr), visit, come back to Rabat 5. Travel by train to Casablanca (~1hr), visit the city (old downtown…), 6. Travel by train or bus to Marrakech (~3hr), visit, go to Essaouira, to the Eastern desert, etc. 7. and on your way back why not fly directly from Marrakech to Barcelona…
