I'm at work and I found this article about Things I wish somebody told me before I came to U.S. I thought I would share: http://www.wafin.com/articles.phtml?artid=284&arttype=art

Answer:
Thanks for sharing! My husband totally disagreed with most of that (though he's still a bit bitter over not being able to play with random children), but I think he'd had more contact with Americans before coming than most do.

Some of it made me sad, especially in the comments. It made you feel their sadness and loneliness for home.

The area where I live is full of Moroccans and many of them want to live the life of opportunity here and then return someday to their homeland... whether full-time or for part of the year. America is thought to be this magical place where everything is roses and honey and that is just not the case. It may be better in certain areas and not in some others. As for the article: People get out of their cars all the time... not a good idea but it happens. It is NOT out of respect but out of the safety for the officer. No... don't pick up random kids... we don't kiss each other on the cheek here... men don't kiss men... this is not just in America but in a lot of European countries as well. Does anybody know what is in hotdogs? Read the labels... if you feel appauled eat kosher hot dogs (there are no halal hot dogs so kosher is the next best thing). A doctor VISIT should be no more than $50-60. When I was in Morocco the first thing I needed to do was see a doctor -- it cost me ~$38. Being late on anything will put a 'black mark' on your credit rating. Yes, this country runs by credit not by the reputation you have with the bank. Again read the back of your statement you get every month and it's right there. Credit cards are haram anyway -- shouldn't be using them to begin with in the first place. If you are lonely most of the time -- that's called depression. There are plenty of drugs for that condition. It's not 'cause you are Moroccan. An education can be a lot of things. But to get an eduction just to get a piece of paper is never a good thing -- for anybody -- guidance councelors not doing their job as usual. This writer is definately bitter about something and that whole article didn't give the underlying reason why.
