How did you learn Dabke?

  • All right I'm not from belad el sham but I love dabke. I know there are different dabke styles (IE. palestinian, lebanese, syrian etc...) but I don't know the difference and I don't know how to dance dabke No Arabic friends to show me .. Anyone could tell me what's the main difference between all dabke styles ? And how do I learn it ? I mean what are the basics ? I see dabke dancers always dancing together like in the same pattern but I'm clueless as how to follow their way..How do I know what's the next move on everybody's mind ? lol HELP !

    You're right about having different styles of Dabke from cojntry to country...it also differs inside Lebanon from town to town. Unfortunately not many people dance dabke anymore, they just dance it in celebrations etc and only th eolder people know how to, the younger generation doesn't really know the rules. I think you have to get DVDs of Fairuz plays. This will show you the real old fashioned Lebanese Dabke

How can I show u honey? I'm ready to teach u but how? An important thing to mention is when people like u & me are dancing the Lebanese dabké, the SAME move is repeated all the time. But when u see professionals dancing it ( giving a dabké show), they prepare & learn the moves previously.

first of all its a hard dance, but with practice u will learn, and ur right each country is different with dancing i will give u videos of each countrys style, im palestinian and i love our dabke!!! we are known for it in everything we do, i love dabke myself and the songs to it, but inshallah u will learn just watch alot of videos on the net and i will provide u some and u will learn, but u do need some help with a partner its better to learn with people

you could not be more correct in stating that there are different styles from country to country. but it even goes a little more deep than that. the village i am from, we have a special dubke that we do. people from a few villages over have another, and so on. men and women versions differ as well. but its nice to know someone has some interest in dubke.cool
