How did you learn Dabke?

Lebanese people...what is the dabke?

  • I notice when I had ask the question what you like most about your culture most of you said Dabke...I would like to learn more about the Lebanese culture...so anyways I notice most of you said dabke? can anyone tell me what it is, and if they can show me an example of it that would be great! Thanks again for your wonderful answer on my last question!

    Dabke is a traditional Lebanese ance (also danced in the whole region , ex. Jordan Syria Palestine but with variations) .. usually danced in Weddings and Folk parties ... people make a long line or circle - boy girl boy girl or sometimes 2 circles boys VS girls ... facing each other or the smaller circle inside the bigger circle ... . there're many kinds of Lebanese dabke according to the region it comes from ..but the mother of all Dabkes is the Baalbeck Dabke (the city where i come from) .. and even this one has also many variations : there's the Arja (the limp) .. the Misthiyye (the shy) .. etc ... the JNOUB (southern) dabke is nice too ... there're a lot of DABKE videos on youtube :) http://youtube.com/watch?v=TW0FWxitmZI here's an example .. this is the most famous Dabke group in Lebanon they're called Hayakel Baalbeck *Baalbeck Temples* . .. mind you these guys are super pro's and they do things normal people can't =D watch all of their videos .. they're awesome :) http://youtube.com/watch?v=crndAWyWpqY&feature=related another one :)
