Is it safe to go to Lebanon at Christmas?

How do Lebanese Christians celebrate Christmas?

  • I always see people eating, drinking, giving presents with a Christmas tree. Most of them don't go to church. Many people view Christmas as a fun holiday with family. One Christian girl told me how much she hated that Christmas was commercialized with Santa Claus. So how do most Christians in Lebanon celebrate Christmas? And is it a day off for other religious people?

  • Answer:

Christmas is an official holiday in Lebanon. All my Christian friends go to Church on Christmas eve, they have dinner with their families and they exchange presents. It is commercialized with Santa Claus but not as much as in the USA. It's a nice time of the year. All the Lebanese wait for Christmas holidays, even Muslims.

we celebrate by going to church, having family for lunch/dinner, having Christmas parties, presents etc.

Depends on religion. Christians: Same as all Christians. Muslims: Some don't celebrate, some put Christmas tree and get gifts for children.

Same as Christians in America but we celebrate it more religiously and we celebrate what Christmas is really behind (not just for shopping and the other stuff).
