Answer:
There's an awesome market in westlands next to sarit center, it's been a while since I was there, but I loved the curios and stuff that I got there. I don't even remember the name of it, but that is a good place to look. Of course find a guide to take you there if it still exsits. Maybe some of the people on here know what it is called.

The David Sheldrake elephant orphanage is wonderful. There's Karen Blixens home in Karen - worth a visit. The maasai market in town is one of the best craft markets and The Bomas of Kenya are also worth a visit. Any knowledgeable Nairobi taxi driver should be able to get you to all these places. I can give you the number of Geoffrey, = an experienced taxi driver who will ensure your safety at all times and he's fun too.

Yes there are different places in Nairobi where you can get local made stuff. There is the Maasai Market that usually operates on two days a week on different locations. On Tuesdays its on the Globe Cinema Roundabout - just within city center and on Saturdays in the City Center on the Kenya Law Courts Parking lot. Here you will get alot of stuff from the source. Most of the people who sell the stuff are the ones who crafted them. Also you can try Kariokor market about 10 minutes from the City Center. Here also you will het alot original stuff. You can even tell them to customize a product for you e.g put name tags e.t.c as you wait. For the safety - the market on saturday you can go alone - its in the central business district but avoid showing off stuff like Digital Cameras and mobile phones - they might be snatched. For the others its better you get a guide or get a taxi and ask the driver to assist you. For more information feel free to get in touch, i'm a local tour guide / consultant based in Nairobi. Yes there are plenty of small markets, although be warned, most of the stuff they sell there is mass produced elsewhere! Maybe if you ask at the place you are staying, or ask a taxi driver, they can take you somewhere. I cant remember the name of the place i went! They also have the snake park, and a museum which was shut for refurbishment when I was there a couple of years ago (so i went to the snake park instead as it is next door).
