How Safe is it to travel to Kenya in Feb 08?

  • I can possibly go to Kenya but I am warned against it because of the recent election. What is the possiblity of the riots lasting until mid-Feb?

    most of these answers are just bollocks!! mid feb may be a good time but i'd say u are better off in april or march since by then the riots will be history and the tensions will have ebbed. Reason being that kenyans are not a violent people so we do not knw how to be violent since there has never been a need to run amock!

The State Department issued a statement on Americans traveling to Kenya. The statement says that Americans are strongly urged not to go to Kenya and that this warning will expire on January 31st. However, I would expect that this warning will be renewed at least until the elections take place. I would keep checking the State Department's web-site as the date of your trip nears.

The majority of Kenyan folk are innocent in all of this and despite what people on here may say Kenya is a fairly safe place to visit ordinarily as long as you take relevant precautions. Despite this I would not travel there at the moment the issue is not with the country or the Kenyan people but the government and forces.

the riots are already subsiding somewhat. We don't know what will happen between Raila and Kibaki between now and then, so stay tuned.

Well, lets put it this way. i would recommend that you wear a 'ak47/rpg/grenade/machete/poison darts/Kenyan proof vest' otherwise you will be shot with an ak47, blown up with an rpg then reblown up with a grenade. afterwhich your very-much scattered remains will be hacked and poisoned then stampeded by a bunch of stinky Kenyans
