Is it possible to get a Kenya holiday with Safari for about £1000 per person?
-
I am dying to go to Kenya for my honeymoon in June next year, and would like to spend a few days on safari, and maybe a few days in a beach hotel. Does anyone know if this would be possible from the UK for around £1000 per person?

Answer:
You CAN DEFIANTLY get to Kenya for less than £1000.... I am getting married there in March 09 and for the 2 of us AND the wedding it has only cost us £2,600 we are staying at the Turtle Bay Beach Club (all inclusive) in Watamu, but if you wanted your holiday a bit cheaper i would recommend the Bamburi area near Mombasa. We are doing a 3 day 2 nigh safari to Tsavo East and West and this is costing £220 per person (all inclusive) i highly recommend a guy called Abdul from TUNDA TOURS he has a website, but also if you go on to www.tripadvisor.com you will see the wonderful reviews about him, when i contacted him he emailed me straight back and has also phoned me just to say hi. Even if you book with him and your in the UK you pay NO DEPOSIT at all and just pay when you get there. I have been to Kenya before but it was 10 years ago and then i payed £100 per night for safari so this deal is really good, i was expecting it to cost a lot more ! Haha i am a total Kenya geek so if you want to know anything at all i will try to help as much as i can so please don't hesitate to email me. And congrats on the wedding x http://www.tundatourssafaris.com/

Yeah, you'll be able to get something for that price. So long as you aren't looking for the very best 5 star hotels! For that type of holiday, its best to book a package deal with tour operators, but if you were to get to Kenya and book when you get there...it would be a lot cheaper. As its a honeymoon though, you probably wont want to stress of that! Try looking on travelzoo http://www.travelzoo.com/select/ you can sometimes get good value safari holidays on there.

You can but the safaris will be short like day safaris and these can be booked whilst you are there. You are looking at staying in Mombassa ( by far someof the best beaches in the world ) African Safari club do some really great deals prices start from arounf £499 per person. With them though choose a 4 or 5 star property. Kenya is a fanastic desitnation for a holiday and I am sure that you will want to go back and do a proper safari. If you do make it late September or October so you can take in the migration. dont forget you need visas for Kenya, they can be purchased once you are there but they tend to vary the prices. If you get them before you go they are about £30 per person I have to agree African Safari Club isnt the best but would be within budget. The trip you have done is one of the best and I have done it more than once but it is not within the price limit. Kenya is a fantastic destination and really should be booked with alot of though so you get everything you want. Have a great honeymoon

If you are looking to go in Jume, then I think you will be hard pressed to find anything around £1000 - an overnight safari to Tsavo followed by a weeks beach holiday in Mombasa is the most likely to meet your criteria. I would personally avoid anything to do with African Safari Club unless you want spend your honeymoon on the loo due their questionable hygiene standards. I have just comeback from honeymoon from Kenya (mid July) and to do the place justice (5 day safari, including Masai Mara Ballon Ride), 10 Days Beach (Voyager Hotel Nyali Beach, all inclusive) we spent around £1900 pp - well worth it though ! Although June is technically the end of the rainy season, it still managed to shower nearly everyday whilst on the beach - indeed the rains were continuing even last week, which by all account is highly unusual. Saying that the showers / clouds would come and go within an hour or so.

Good news - this is totally possible! Here are a few websites for you to look at: www.somak.com www.gatewayholidays.co.uk www.africansafariclub.co.uk You will find all sorts of deals there so you can choose what suits you. Hotels I would recommend: Bamburi Beach Hotel Travellers Hotel Indiana Beach Apartment Hotel

Am kenyan and trust me its very possible, but don't go telling tour operators in kenya the amount you want to spend, they will make sure the y squeeze the entire amount from you. The amount though depends on how long you intend to stay for the honeymoon, once you determine this then its possible to know if it will be enough. I will be glad to do the research for you!

Yes its possible but not from the UK. To do this at this price (which is cheap), and from personal experience it is possible you need to do the following:- Book a flight only seat with www.travelrepublic.co.uk from Gatwick to Mombasa. Contact Patricia or Andy of Milimani backpackers - www.milimanibackpackers.com in Nairobi. Tell them your travel dates, your budget, the number of people travelling, and what you want to do. They will help you with an itinery. But WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO SAVE MONEY ON YOUR HONEYMOON!? Its your honeymoon, a once in a lifetime thing, you shouldn't be counting the pennies. If you can't afford to do it, then go somewhere you can afford without having to watch the budget so closely. For a cheap beach holiday in Kenya, get on the bus from Mombasa, and go to Lamu. Stay in the Casaurina Hotel, over looking the harbour. BTW - June may still be the wet season, which will get you a cheap price, but will bring the mosquitos and flies out in force! I've been to Kenya twice, the last time was just a few months ago (in June), so I do know what I'm talking about! BTW - if you do get in contact with Patricia or Andy from Milimani - mention my name to them, it might help get you another discount! (I don't get paid for recommending them, I just know they are the cheapest and best place to stay in Nairobi, and the fairest tour operator there). Tell them Bwana (Mr) Kamau from the UK recommended you. If you do go to Lamu (and you definitely should), mention Kamau the Mzungu (Kamau the whiteman) to any of the beach boys, to Captain Ali or Captain Hassan (the dhow captains), as they willl know me too. Oh say hello to Satan and Jane in Petleys bar!

The best safaris in Kenya are run by local people. My cousin does safari trips to the Masai Mara, and can arrange a hotel and take you out on the Mara. It is spectacular and will say GO GO GO! The Corporate packages are grossly overpriced and often do not get you to the real places. If you don't mind a rough ride and not too health and safety conscious you cant beat driving across the African Plains in a beat up old Nissan van watching th most amazing wildlife in the world. Will try and get cousins email address and send it to you. Go For It!
