If israel is such a safe place to live, why do they say they are the victims of palestinians/arabs/muslims?

At first, I wondered why so many Jewish people choose to live in Israel. It seemed to me to be a pretty unsafe place to live. However, a few people set me straight, and informed me that it is, in fact, a very safe place to live. See my question below: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AuaIj0C.YMVPg1WMcQxgMn4azKIX;_ylv=3?qid=20090712093846AAJtOHz So now my question is this: if Israel is so safe, why are they so worried about the Palestinians? Their army is one of the best in the world, they are one of the richest countries in the world, and also apparently one of the safest. Why do Israelis consider themselves to be under attack, if this is the case? Many people said that the attack on Gaza was in "self-defense" - but how can you justify this, if Israel is so safe that it makes sense to live there? Please don't take this as me just ranting. I am genuinely confused and hoping for some kind of explanation.

The outstanding characteristic of Yahoo Answers is that people can write any libel about Jews or Israel and it remains for posterity. Just for the record, the Jews did not steal any land from the Fakestinians. Both sides were offered land. The Arab "Palestinians" were offered 70% of the land and REFUSED. Jews agreed to coexist with them, and on each offer after. Jews have NEVER refused to coexist with them. Now, here is something to think about: Jews have lived continuously on that land for 4000 years. Arabs entered history 2700 years ago in Arabia. When the first Arabs came to the land now being discussed, in the 7th century, Jews were living on it for...2700 years. I know it seems like many numbers, but if you carefully examine them, you will start to understand an important truth. Arabs are native to one place on the planet, al Hejaz in what is now Saudi Arabia. Today they have 22 nations and want a 23rd, the country the plan to name "Palestine." Jews are natives only to Israel, Gaza, Jordan and the so-called "west bank." yet, Israel exists, including all "settlements," on only 19% of its historical homeland. How many people would agree to let anyone have 81% of their house? Yet, Jews are willing to do that! Why? Let me explain... There has never been a nation called "Palestine," ever. The name came into existence from Romans, who after finally defeating the Jews after 300 years of wars, sought to insult them. The name means, "land of the Philistines." Those familiar with the bible will recall that Jews and Philistines hated each other. They hated each other so much that the Jews finally made them extinct. By 600 BC, all of them were dead. Who were they? Could today’s "Palestinians" possible be their descendants? The Philistines were Greek; they came from the island of Crete, near Greece. I do not think you will ever find a single "Palestinians" agreeing that those were their ancestors. Indeed, no Arab nation has ever stood on that land. Arabs invaded under omar in the seventh century, but ruled it as part of a large empire, and even then only for 22 years. 'Omar did not allow his soldiers to marry local women, and so until the 9th century Jews continued as the overall majority on the land. Only under Salah a Din did the Jews fall into a minority (after crusaders had ravaged the land first), and Salah a Din was not even Arab, but a Kurd! People that say it is an "Arab land" are ignorant of history, of truth. Most of the people now calling themselves "Palestinians" are descended from Arabs who migrated there from the 18th century, onward until the present. They did so when the Ottomans, who were Turks, not Arabs, ruled the land; it has never been an "Arab land." But why would the Jews agree to give away 81% of their own land? "Palestinians" have suffered terribly. Arabs have 22 nations, from Morocco, all the way to the Iranian border; except for Israel, every nation is Arab! Yet, none of these nations (except Jordan) has allowed "Palestinians" to gain citizenship. In Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and others the "Palestinians" are made to live as strangers, as less than citizens. They suffer terribly. .

Israel is generally a safe place because the democratically elected Israeli government invests its resources in protecting its civilian population. Over the past seven years, there have been over 8,000 terror attacks in Southern Israel, primarily Qassam rocket and mortar attacks. From these attacks, less than 100 civilians were killed, yet hundreds were wounded. Israel installed radars to warn civilians 15 seconds before any rocket or missile would hit, and the government built bomb shelters for the citizens to run into. Had the Israeli government not invested in these two things (bomb shelters and radars), thousands of civlians would have been killed by now. Please keep in mind, Israel refrained from retaliating to these 8,000 terror attacks until Operation Cast Lead. Could you imagine what the United States would do if even one rocket was shot out of Tijuana, Mexico into San Diego? ...let alone 8,000. Even though Israel is blessed with a strong army, no army can bring a warm peace to a region. Israelis and Palestinians live in each others backyards, and although the vast majority of Israelis and Palestinians are willing to live together, side by side in peace, there are extremists who terrorize those of the other population. Israelis and Palestinians have lived in a state of war for over 60 years. Both peoples have suffered. The Palestinians deserve a state, and Israel deserves security. It's time we focus on the moderates who DO want peace, and who DO want to live together, rather than getting distracted by those extremists who do whatever they can to prevent a peaceful future.

Jews are malicious they victimize them selves when they are the offender they destroy a town and won't allow the Media to cover it then they help 50-100 injured civilian from that town and they tell the Media:look we are helping them from the attacks of Hamas you know what filth mean? why do you think nobody likes them?
Mujahid
Isaac pretty much answered your question. It is the moderates of both countries that will bring about peace. Living in hatred for past transgressions prevents any progress whatsoever and gives no future to the young people there.

I am Greek living in Greece for more than thirty years so I may know a thing or two about "Israel". None of the Jewish diaspora Jews that live here for thousands of years even think of immigrating to Palestine. This is the Global Peace Index report for 2009 http://www.visionofhumanity.org/gpi/results/rankings.php You will find Israel at the very bottom of this list. They are not the "victim". The Palestinian children are.

Israel is the safest place in the world for Jews to live. Now the Jews have an army to defend them against despots who would murder Jews. The Arabs have decided that they can defeat Israel only by terrorist actions against innocent Jewish citizens. Israel's conduct against the Muslim terrorists has been completely in accordance with international law. Not like the Hamas, who have lobbed 8000 rockets at Israeli civilians. And sent suicide bombers into Israeli cities to explode in restaurants and shopping centers, with the express aim of killing and maiming innocent Israeli citizens. That is called terror – Islamic terror. .

They say this as a lame excuse for killing, maming, and otherwise terrorizing the Palestinians whose land they stole. Getting the American people to approve of the billions of dollars of welfare they give to Israel depends on such excuses.

Yes, Israel is generally pretty safe. Most people do not get killed in violent crimes, seemingly not as many as in most other nations. Rape, Murder, armed robbery, etc. rates are very low for Israel. However, terrorist attacks are therefor that much higher on the list for possible causes of death. In the U.S., more people die every year from violent crimes then did on 9/11, a single isolated terrorist attack which happened almost 8 years ago. So while terrorism is important, it doesn't effect the daily activities of most people and it's unlikely for them to die from that - there are so many more things which are more likely to kill you. So in Israel, without many of those other things as likely to kill you, and with terrorist attacks being an almost daily occurrence, making you drop whatever you're doing and dive into a bomb shelter in the 15 seconds before a rocket lands which could kill you and your family if it hits your dining room during dinner....yeah, that's something that needs to be stopped. So the death toll from terrorism is lower than from the usual causes of violent death, and overall they may stand a better chance at not being killed through a violent death, but how would that make them any less a victim of terrorist attacks? In southern Israel there's a town called Sderot, roughly 4 rockets strike every day. The constant explosions and warning siren has such a debilitating affect on the community that roughly 30% are suffering from post traumatic stress syndrome. Something like a quarter of the population from the town has simply left out of desperation. So for around 8 years Israel, and Sderot in particular, has been dealing with constant, daily, usually more than just daily, potentially lethal terrorist attacks. Israel tried all variety of political bargaining and deals in order to try and get them to stop, it didn't work, so how can you denounce Israel finally doing something effective to stop the constant attacks? Which seems to be what occurred. I can't be sure, but some quick research hasn't really shown any more rocket attacks by Hamas after Operation Cast Lead. There's likely been more incidents, but seemingly nothing very substantial. (But to be clear, my quick research was only cursory.) If it didn't work then at least they tried, but because it worked - especially because it worked, how can you decry it?

What we are wondering, is what we are to do with them. They don't want to go to Israel, the other countries won't accept them, so what to do? Even if israel wasn't a safe place to live, would we still be here? yes. is los angelas safe? No. Do people still live there despite that? Yes. If one person died in a population of a billion, would people still care about that one? Although a small problem, it is our biggest one. Even if we have the big military, what are we supposed to do with it? Go through the west bank and kill everyone? Of course not.
Their propaganda is basically very schizophrenic on this and all other matters; it tends to pursue dualistic and invariably contrary "angles" by way covering all bases.
