Answer:
Around three million years ago, what is now the valley of the Jordan River, Dead Sea, and Wadi Arabah was repeatedly inundated by waters from the Mediterranean Sea. The waters formed in a narrow, crooked bay which was connected to the sea through what is now the Jezreel Valley. The floods of the valley came and went depending on long scale climate change. The lake that occupied the Dead Sea Rift, named "Lake Sodom", deposited beds of salt that eventually became 3 km (1.9 mile ) thick. Approximately two million years ago, the land between the Rift Valley and the Mediterranean Sea rose to such an extent that the ocean could no longer flood the area. Thus, the long bay became a lake. In prehistoric times, great amounts of sediment collected on the floor of Lake Gomorrah. The sediment was heavier than the salt deposits and squeezed the salt deposits upwards The Dead Sea is not really a sea, it is actually a land locked lake between Israel and Jordon. The Dead Sea is the second saltiest body of water in the world, with a salt content of 33%. Cheers from DOWNUNDER

One of the reasons the Dead Sea is so salty is because there are no outlets. The minerals that flow into it stay there forever. Most bodies of fresh water have outlets such as rivers and streams, which allow them to dispose of any dissolved minerals that might flow into them from other sources. Most oceans and seas typically have no outlets. There are a few exceptions such as the Mediterranean Sea. It is much saltier than the Atlantic Ocean, but it loses some of its mineral-rich water through the Straits of Gibraltar. This increase in salinity occurs in all landlocked bodies of saltwater. An example of this in the United States is the Great Salt Lake in Utah. The Dead Sea holds some of the saltiest water in the world. It is almost six times as salty as the ocean. The Dead Sea is completely landlocked. As the depth of the water increases, the water gets even more salty, creating salt piles on the sea bottom. There are several rivers and streams that feed into the Dead Sea, but none that drain out. Evaporation is the only way water is released Read more: Why is the Dead Sea So Salty? | eHow.com http://www.ehow.com/about_5384395_dead-sea-salty.html#ixzz1GisCOcnp

The Dead Sea is 423 metres below sea level with an average rainfall of only 3.9 ins a year so evaporation over millions of years plays a major part Its now 8.6 saltier than the worlds oceans so their is no life in it hence the name Its in fact a huge lake and not a sea as we know it

The Bible has a story of 2 cities that used to be there that were very sinful So God destroyed them after the destruction they became what they are now
Mark
{The people of Lut rejected (his) warning. We sent against them a violent Tornado with showers of stones, (which destroyed them), except Lut's household: them We delivered by early Dawn,- As a Grace from Us: thus do We reward those who give thanks. And (Lut) did warn them of Our Punishment, but they disputed about the Warning. (Surat al-Qamar:, 33-36)} Whether you believe it is genuine or fable is up to you.
