What are the main economic activities in Syria?

Apartheid alawite government ruling Syria, commiting mass genocide towards the Sunni majority?

  • Who agrees with me that the situation in Syria is a result of Alawite hatred towards a sunni majority. The alawites in Syria are a minority group, that are a very deviant offshoot of Shia islam. Ever since Hafez assad took over, he made it a priority for him and his fellow alawites to remove all sunni government and military officials so that the alawites can rule Syria without any opposition. Ever since their rule over Syria they made it a priority to ensure that the Syrian alawite population benefits from the poltical and economic system that hafez al assad put into place, similar to what the white south Africans did during apartheid. This includes all government and military jobs/positions, and that all alawites recieved certain benefits and priority over the sunnis in certain economic positions as well. This allowed the alawite population to go from rags to riches. Syria till this date is synonomous to former South Africa. It is my opinion that the Syrian government’s criminal actions against its population is a result of hate from the Alawite minority towards the Sunni majority. They use issues of Western colonialism and Israel as a scape goat to all of Syria’s problems, merely to rile up the entire country and divert the attention away from the alawites milking the Syrian country from all its wealth and resources, while the Christians and sunni majority preoccupy themselves with hatred towards the west and Israel. (((The butchering (literally at times) of the Syrian sunni population, including children, elderly, and women is a result of alawite hatred. The reason why the Syrian government is conducting a brutal military assault on the population of Hama is because of the lack of alawites in hama. The number of demonstrators that have been killed has surpassed 2500. )))) Hizbullah, Iran, and Iraq condone and support what the Syrian government is doing to its people because of the fact that all 3 of those countries are Shia ruled countries that are expressing their support to the alawite(shia) either by monetary means, or to the extent of military support. Nori al Maliki gave the Syrian government 10 million dollars, and expressed his overt support towards the actions of the Syrian government. It was reported that even Iranian and Hizbullah military units were sent to Syria in order to quell the resistance by the most violent means necessary. Its interesting that recently the Saudi, Kuwaiti, Bahraini governments condemned and withdrew their embassadors from Syria, especially considering that all 3 countries are governed by Sunnis, whereas the Shia governments condone and support Syria regardless how brutal and barbaric the measure they take to suppress the demonstrators. It is my firm stance that the Alawite government in Syria will never be willing to relinquish control over the rule of Syria, or be willing to make any concessions to the protestors ever. They will continue their assault on the Sunni majority as long as they see fit, possibly to the extent of a genocide, leading to a mass demograpic change of Syria. Who agrees that it is imperative for all countries in the world to put more pressure, to sanction the Syrian government, and never remove the option of possible military intervention. Not only is it in the interest of all sunni Arab countries and the Syrian people to remove the Assad regime and his alawite cronies, but also in the interest of the West and Israel because that would weaken Iranian influence in the region, and significantly weaken hizbullah.

  • Answer:

I think a western military intervention in Syria will be to neither sides' benefit. We all saw what the UN is doing in Lybia. They are blasting the Ghaddafi forces yes, but are also bombing the rebels so that in the end of the Battle, only the UN is declared victorious, which would be of great benefit to them as Libya is very rich with natural resources. So, I'd say an Arabic military intervention would be much more useful and sincere as they have no interests in oppressing anyone in the country.

So what,do you think that if the sunnis took power, they will go against Iran,Syria has interests with Iran just now they sent them 6 billion dollars and 300,000 barrels of oil,Syrians love Iran, and the part of Iraq,Iraq has like million of refugees in Syria, sunni and shia Iraqis,so if they start talking about them, the next day million of Iraqis will on the border which is not in the interests of the Iraqi government,it is all about interests, and i could ask the same question about Bahrain why do all Arabs countries stand with the oppression of the shia majority and genocide of them and take side with the ruling sunni minority,it is all about interests, and do not worry about Israel it will not be destroyed by Hezbollah or Iran,God has plans for them.

I do agree with many of your major points. I'm not as informed about the Alawites in Syria; however, as Assad is a representative for them in the world, I can at least see where most of your arguments come from. Whether or not it's the official Alawite policy, the Assad family is influential for their community, I believe, and they seem to have the power of that community as well from an outsiders point of view.
