Info on the 1973 Ofira Air Battle? Also known as 2-28 battle.?

What I know of this is limited, so I would like to know more please about this little-known incident. What I know about this is, that on the first day of the Yom Kippur War, 28 Egyptian Migs ( I believe Mig 17's) were on route to attack IDF positions in the interior, but were intercepted by 2 Israeli F-4 Phantoms. 7 Migs were confirmed shot down in a span of approx. 6 min and the remaining 21 Egyptian planes disengaged. Not hit, the 2 Israeli planes returned to base. Now this is all I could find. Does anyone know more details about this story and/or other stories involving the Israeli Airforce? Any help (not people screaming that this is an Israeli lie or propaganda, this is historical fact), would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Sorry I don't have any info on the situation. But as far as propaganda goes it's funny to see these Egyptian writers' comments. They are upset, obviously, that they lost the 6 day war of 1967 and subsequent wars (only the U.N. cease-fire saved the Egyptian 3rd army from being destroyed in the 1973 Yom Kippur war). The Palestinians are nothing but terrorist that primarily focus on civilian targets; a truly dishonorable tactic, while the Israelis take measures to try and hit only militaristic type targets (who are often dressed in civilian clothes). The Hamas' rocket attacks on Israel of 2006 are a perfect example, and only one of many. Israel already shares Jerusalem, and half their land with Palestinians. Look on a map: the Arabs have so much more land than Israel it's pathetic! The land belonged to the Israelites thousands of years ago when Moses/Arron brought them into the land. They were forced out by the Romans in 70 AD. The Palestinians didn't care about the land (it was all desert) for hundreds of years until Israel came back and made the land fruitful (green). BTW Palestine was the name of the territory, it was never a country! ~Truth~ Long live Israel -Bob

Although you don't have any credibility as many people read the wrong information you posted before, but I would have discuss it with you this time if you even have any proof written buy non Zionist source. I just know that at that time the best Israeli air fighter was {best} coz he destroyed the largest number of planes on ground in 1967 (including the civilian planes). I wonder if the best now he is the one who shooted on Palestinian civilians more than others !!! Those are your heroes.

To the poster above me: Egypt failed in freeing "all its territory" from Israeli occupation, as Egypt lost the war. At wars end, Israeli forces were on the western side of the Suez, 100 KM from Cairo. The Egyptian third army was cut off and trapped in the desert with no food or water. Simply put: Egypt lost. The war however did relieve some of Egypts humiliation allowing them to talk peace with Israel which did in turn lead to the return of the Sinai for peace. However, Israel had passed a bill as early as June 19th 1967 stating that it would return Sinai for peace. It was Egypt who held up the peace process by refusing to recognize Israel, not Israel. In short, the Egyptians would have received the Sinai anyway had they not waged war, and sooner. Your revisionist history is soundly false. To the asker, I'm sorry but I don't know any details. I do know that in 1967 the IAF flew so low over the desert as to be undetectable by radar, which coupled with some odd flukes allowed for the resoundingly successful operation.

Well many things happen during wars... Battles are won and lost with different scenarios... I have no idea about this specific incident. Obviously because within the context of a larger war it can be quite irrelevant except on a personal level to those who lived the experience itself. But the final result of 1973 war and its aftermath was that Egypt succeeded in freeing its entire territory from Israeli occupation. Edit to Headhunter 6: Just to be practical... the concept of a modern state is a recent one... in antiquity the concept was different and was based on small kingdom like cities or larger empires dominated by the super powers of that era. In this context neither Israel nor Palestine never had the chance to exist as modern states. During the millenia before and after Moses, who happened to live during the Bronze age, the ancestors of today's natives always lived in this land. the Israelites conquered them after fleeing Egypt and established a unified kingdom for 80 years only Under David and Solomon which then started falling apart under Saul, Check your Torah. As for the rest of the time (thousands of years) it was under different rulers and systems and Jews living there were like everybody else... just subjects to foreign or local rule. Are those 80 years of direct rule during the Bronze age enough to justify your historical claims? Shouldn't it be better to deal with today's facts and realities on the ground before looking for solutions in the Bronze age?
