I am going to Neve Tzedek in Tel Aviv in Israel, in a few weeks time! I'm very excited! but just have a few questions I wonder if anyone can answer?? I mentioned to some of my family I was going and they became concerned asking if I was safe! suicide bombers etc.. & the fact that I'm a 25 female. I want to know...is it safe? I will be staying with the family I work for when I'm there. What should I wear? are leggings and vest tops and flip flops ok? What will the weather be like end of December/Early January? Any areas should I avoid?

Answer:
first of all, good choice, Israel is a great country lots to see and do, you will love it, Tel Aviv is where all the action is. December / Jan is still winter so it might be cold and rainy, so you wouldnt be wearing flip flops and vests, take with you light winter clothes for that time. Yes Israel is very safe Visitors are always amazed at how safe they feel in Israel. The crime rate is far lower than almost every other western country. Even children walk freely in the streets at all hours. When asked how secure visitors felt in Israel The State of Israel and Keshet go to great lengths to safeguard every visitor. You will feel it from the moment that you approach your flight, and through the entire trip. Statistically, visiting Israel is safer than almost any other place in the western world, including the USA. This fear of visiting Israel is no more rational than fear of flying: the likelihood of an airline accident is less than 1 in 2 million, while the chances of dying in a car accident, according to the US Department of Transportation, is 1 in 7700. Measured by square feet and population, according to FBI statistics - Israel is far safer than most major North American cities! So, the response to the question "Is Israel a safe place to visit?" is, without hesitation yes, yes, YES! "It is ironic that in America we have deadbolts on our doors, locks on our windows, and alarms on our houses, and claim that Israel is too dangerous." M. Anstey, Washington DC Unfortunately, though, questioning safety is very common, especially since 9/11 (which you will remember happened in the US not Israel!). Based on sensationalized media coverage, many perceive Israel as a perpetual war zone. But Israel is not in a war in the conventional sense. No missiles, or scuds, or tanks in the streets. The Palestinian's are using a psychological weapon called: "Terror Attacks" They are called that because their MAIN goal is to spread terror and fear - if we give in to it, we will be aiding and abetting it There is a saying that you can call to the Lord anywhere, but in Israel it is a local call. HOW MUCH SAFER CAN YOU BE THAN THAT? Neve Tsedek is the oldest part of Tel Aviv while the neighborhood has gone yuppie in the past years, it has retained much of its old charm, its very central. First of all, yes, it's safe! As for areas to avoid - I would say use your common sense, if it doesn't seem right, get out. Most areas in Israel are perfectly safe, even for lone women travelers. As a 25-year old in Neve Tzedek, you'll have a great time! Secondly, what you decide to bring may depend a little on what you're used to. I'm from the UK originally and some days in December / January can be pure heaven...flip flops included! Have a great trip!

stay away from this forum? It won't get too cold but d sweater should be fine. It is safe. I mean I would be more scared of being in a neigborhood that is bad in America than Israel. There are cops all over (some places). It is around 15 celcius now. No areas to avoid really, since you are in Israel and not the west bank and Gaza. I guess it may get dangerous (but does not ) near Jerusalem.
