How is life for women in israel?
-
how would you generalize the current role of women? do they have equal rights to men, or do the government and society have any hidden restrictions on women, in terms of equal opportunity and traditional gender roles? could you also fill me in as to the history of women in israel, especially when it comes to prostitution? thanks so much- this is all for my huge research paper which is actually due at midnight =(

Answer:
i an an aussie who lived in israel for 10 years. the women there do have equal rights and equal choices. they have to... you cannot expect a woman to train to protect her country along side men and then expect her to bow down to a man in her own home. i have noticed though that the women there, and this is a bit of a generalisation, are slightly more family oriented and less career oriented as a whole than say the usa or australia. as for prostitution, its the oldest profession in the world and exists in every single country in the world.yes there are prostitutes from europe, but guess what they are in the usa, australia, the uk, and in all of the arab countries too. in fact, one of my neighbours in australia ( and i think this is disgusting, but its the way it is) has a business where he exports australian prostitutes to oil rich arab countries to work.so yes, there are prostitutes in israel, but there are prostitutes all over the world and have been since time began.

Women in Israel, unlike all of the other Muslim neighboring countries, have equal right as men. They can run for government (Golda Meir prime minister of Israel, that is the highest position in Israel. Much like president in America.), vote, dress however they want (same rules as America), work, and have the option to do everything a man can do. While Israel does have some prostitutes (it is illegal) they are very few compared to other countries.
i saw a video and the woman was beaten by a moron israeli man in front of the camera while the guy was filming

The role of women is generally good. Women have equal rights to men, despite what you might infer if you look at some of the more traditional communities; but, the majority of Israeli women take full advantage of the rights Israel gives them. While the opportunity is there, many still live traditional lives because of the culture, or their families put pressure on them to maintain it. Women in Israel have made incredible strides and contributions to the state. In the last election, one of the candidates for the Prime Minister position was a woman named Tzipi Livni, who represented the Kadima party. Israeli women don't have many (if any) jobs that are denied to them in the military, and the Israeli military is the only on in the world that grants equality to men and women, where both men and women have to join the military (though, women can get out it easier, I've heard, and they only have to serve 2 years). While it might seem alarming that Israel drafts women in this way, I'm just pointing out they are treated exactly like their male counterparts, especially those girls who chose to enlist into the hardest, life threatening areas. Prostitution does exist in Israel, and it is unfortunate. However, Israel is making great strides to fight this. I think the term is Tier 2, and I wish Israel would do more to fight this. Prostitution is legal in Israel; however, pimps and brothels aren't, so it is only legal if you yourself make this decision. If you want some great women stories, I would know that the CEO of Israel's major bank, Bank Ha'Poelim (Worker's Bank) is a woman. There is Golda Meir, who lead Israel for some time. Also, a recent Nobel winner in Chemistry is an Israeli female scientist. Good luck with your paper. You'll need it if midnight is your due date.

Ya I would say "Israeli" women are equal to the men. Theyre even allowed to be in the IDF. Prostitution some jews might, but "Israelis" like to bring in European women instead to work in brothels sad but true. Jews are famous for these kinds of things. Don't forget to put that in your paper. LOL You're such a procrastinator. My english research paper is on the Crusades and im gonna wing it the night before too. Oemgee jews guess what????? I wrote this paper for mythology. It's about the perspective of an "israeli" and a Palestinian (I chose the topic). Guess what my grade was??? 100% LOOOOOL. And he commented and told me that I captured the "Israeli" perspective oh so well and that I was very unbiased (he didn't know that I was an arab haha) LOOOOL. My friends looked at it and started calling me a jew lover (non arabs btw so you dont go saying all arabs are "anti-semitic" lol). I was soooo embarrassed. What a shame.
life for jewish israeli girl is very good. for palestinian girl...not so good.
By law women in Israel have complete freedom and equality. One person has already mentioned Golda Meir one of many Israeli prime ministers. Women are also required by law to serve in the army and can hold high positions in it too.. As with most armys women dont do front line stuff - but Israeli women have a reputation for being quite tough and fiercesome - and youll see many walking alongside their male counterparts - with guns on their backs. Unlike its islamic neighbours - Israel doesnt impose any dress codes on its women. Women are free to dress as they choose - within the laws of decency - as in all countries - but in tel aviv youll see women in tight trousers, cropped tops - just about anything really.. I guess the only exception to the rule is orthodox jewish communities. They tend to live together in certain neighborhoods - and while its not against the law to walk throught those places dressed as you want - for women especially its safer and more polite to dress more modestly in those areas - as orthodox jews can be very protective of their communities and what is seen and goes through them. Within orthodox jewish societies -women and men have more traditional roles - and women are required to dress in a way not very differant to muslim women - with the exception being that only married women cover hair - and scarves dont cover the neck- also clothing doesnt have to be so loose fitting .. israeli and jewish law however, protects these communities and women are free to become more religious or less religious if they choose. I guess - like many european countries - Israel could be considered more conservative than say america or the UK - especially in terms of dress. Although there is a strong hippy and alternative culture - its by no means mainstream - and you wont find many Israeli women walking around heavily tattood or in the kind of extreme clothing youd get in London or soho or camden town. I guess there is a general idea that respectable men and women dress and act in a certain way - and exceptions to the ''norm'' are tolerated less than in other countries.. it really does depend on the area though and there are vast differances between what is accpeted in religious and non religious communities. As for prostitution - i dont know much about it - except that its illegal but does go on - however - its not as tolerated or as visible as in other western countries
