If Israel is governed by secular laws why do they call themselves a Jewish state?

Do not compare Canada and Israel. Canada is a democracy....Israel is NOT.

it was created as a jewish state but is now occupied by many many christians and muslims (mostly peaceful). In israel on shabbat (friday night-saturday night) and other Jewish holidays bus services in most parts of israel do not run and stores are not open etc. Jewish holidays are pretty much national holidays in Israel.

Being Jewish is cultural not ethnic.

it's a way to tell palestinians " arabs, mslims,christians " it's ours no longer yours .

canada doesnt need to say its a christian state... BECAUSE IT IS!! australia doesnt need to say its a christian country because it is. the usa doesnt need to say its a christian country because it is! noone argues this, they just are.whether it is secular orthodox makes no difference, christian is christian. same as for jews, doesnt matter whether secualar or othodox, jewish is jewish (and furthermore the entire world has spent more than 2000 years reminding jews of this fact when they want to kill them). so why does israel feel the need to say it is a jewish state, because the world has asked jews to define themselves for thousands of years..and it continues in countries like the usa and canada and australia. even on this site with questions like "are you an american jew or a jewish american". noone asks a muslim american if he is a muslim american or an american muslim, noone asks if someone is a catholic american or an american catholic. its only jews who are required to define themselves. and after thousands of years of this jews have been indoctrined by people just like you to define themselves and it has become habit.

Well it used to be ALOT more of a Jewish state than it is now, for example, bacon used to be illegal!!! If anyone wanted to eat bacon, you would buy it on the "black market". Also, Mcdonalds used to not sell cheese burgurs or milk, now if you go there, in most places, you will see 2 mcds, one kosher and one not

When the country started it was 100% Jews, and culturally it's "more Jewish" than Canada is Christian.,
