  • I'm thinking of visiting Israel, just would like some advice on what the best things to see and do while there.

  • Answer:

In my opinion the must sees are.. 1..The Dead Sea ...an interesting experience to lose your legs. 2..Massada....Historical site o'looking the Dead Sea ..where the zealots sacrificed their own lives rather than falling to the Romans 3..Jericho...see the old & the new ...taste the amazing nuts of the Sychamore Tree 4..Jerusalem...steeped in History ...so much to see ..allow at least 4/5 days & get a good , reputable guide 5..Bethlehem...visit the site of Christ's birth ....gain a little perspective of what it's like to be behind that wretched wall ! 6..Tel Aviv...a taste of modern Israel 7...Haifa...a beautiful city ...see the Bahai Temple..have coffee & cake in the German quarter. 8..The historical sites of Caesarea & Capernaeum.. 9..Nazareth ...Jesus home town..see the replica village , 10..Amazing Galilee...basicly untouched since Jesus last saw it ...incredible place ! Experience a boat ride to get a feel for the place 11..The Golan Heights....try the cherries there .

Visiting Israel for the first time is like eating at the finest" smorgasbord".One has more to chose than one can eat. Also if time is limited one can stuff in more than one cope with. Israel is compact and easy to travel around in.It is also safer to visit than most countries. The contrasts are also much greater. The weather is fairly predictable.Sunny long summers and wet but short Mediterranean winters.Jerusalem can be fairly cold, with almost no snow.Golan does have snow.Tel Aviv is beach weather 9 months a year and sometimes longer,Eilat ,on the Red Sea is warm even in winter. Could I suggest a short list of some of the finest experiences. Jerusalem is one of the great historic cities of the world. It has also become a unique and fitting capital of Israel. The Old City with it's ancient pinkish stone turning golden in the early morning sun is spectacular. So also is walking on it's ramparts. If you would like to experience mass by 4 different Christian Churches in the same Church than rise early and go to the Church of the holy Sepulchre. The golden Dome of the Dome of the rock is built on the site of King Solomons Temple. The Western Wall of the Temple is open to all and thousand converge there for individual prayer or services. There is a hauntingly beautiful tunnel leading from the wall to the Christian Quarter.Visit the rebuilt Jewish Quarter ,above the square in front of the Wall.Enjoy a snack along the walking streets of downtown Jerusalem, where the young people meet. The Hebrew Museum, with it's 2500 year old Biblical scroll, is one of the best museums in the world.A Jerusalem tour is a must. You should travel to the Dead Sea,deepest place on earth and climb on the snake path to the fortress of Massada. There you.can visit Herod's palace. Modern Tel Aviv is the night life hot spot of Israel and it's miles of beach .Haifa is the sea port with views and Bahai gardens.Travel by scenic modern light train, bus or by taxi/sherut and be anywhere in an hour or two.Add a few hours to get to the Red Sea.People are friendly and most speak English. Enjoy the experience, where ever you you have the urge to go.
